Director of Engineering - Platform

About the Role:
We’re looking for a seasoned Director of Engineering to lead our foundational platform development group. You will be responsible for leading the technical strategy and execution across our Engine, Enablement, DX and Infrastructure teams that are coming together to build Rose Rocket's next generation platform. The successful hire likes creating leverage for other teams and leading Engineering Managers to achieve the highest impact possible.

The candidate will be reporting directly to the VP of Engineering along with receiving guidance from the CTO. There are other Directors of Engineering who lead product development groups who will be regular stakeholders on various initiatives. As the Director of Engineering for Platform, you will be collaborating horizontally across the org while leading groups of teams as the new Platform technology is adopted across the organization. Successful candidates prioritize execution and delivery over managing politics - we’re looking for leaders who hold teams accountable for driving impact.

Your responsibilities will include

• Building and leading the technical strategy in collaboration with Engineering Managers across the Platform group.
• Oversight of Rose Rocket’s engineering org productivity and system costs with accountability to leveling up team execution.
• In collaboration with the VP of Engineering, set platform group KPIs and be able to define, monitor, and analyze them.
• Understand how to use our KPI learnings to drive productivity, reduce costs, harden security, increase platform adoption, and improve processes overall.
• Manage the roadmap and oversee sprint execution. Apply a future mindset to build the long-term vision for the platform group aligned with Rose Rocket’s ambitious goals.
• Apply your understanding & curiosity about technology to achieve leverage across the engineering org with defined timelines and milestones.
• Actively own and anticipate resourcing needs along with supporting managers on external hiring.
• Proactively developing managers and ICs across the group with regular feedback and performance management.
• Actively participate in quarterly planning weeks, tech invest weeks, and bug weeks.
• Help sustain and improve Rose Rocket’s security posture which protects our customers’ data and business on our platform.
• Regularly sharing insights and reporting with SLT (senior leadership team) on group initiatives.

What you bring to the team

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 6+ years proven experience building software in foundational engineering (infra and/or platform components)
• 4+ years of management building and leading a software engineering team(s)
• Strong ability to collaborate with Engineering and Product teams in order to deliver new product features.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience enabling other teams through establishing & training on best practices.
• Experience working with SaaS or enterprise products.
• You are energized by team environments and working with others.
• Understanding of the dev tools ecosystem and how it has evolved over time.
• Even if you don't get to do it often, you are technical and enjoy coding hands on while improving DX (Developer Experience).

Nice to haves

• Background in the Trucking Industry.
• Experience as a past Director of Engineering.
• Experience using technologies such as: AWS, Datadog, dbt, Linear, Looker, Kubernetes, PagerDuty, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, Temporal, Terraform.
