Position Summary
The Director of Accounting and Financial Services must possess strong communication, organizational, technology and leadership skills as well as have comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The Director’s primary roles are to monitor, supervise and evaluate all daily accounting activities and to collect, analyze verify and report a myriad of financial information. The position is expected to work effectively with the Chief Financial Officer, other members of the accounting team and staff partners across the organization.

Some of the duties include:
• Direct the day-to-day actions of the accounting department
• Responsible for ensuring the execution of all daily, weekly and monthly accounting activities, including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue recognition and deposits, credit card processing, purchase orders, invoices, payroll processing, and month end close.
• Ensure timely filing of agency’s tax filings
• Provide timely and accurate financial statements
• Manage all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with GAAP
• Support special event financial needs including petty cash, credit card processing, bank deposit, and event budget reconciliation.
• Track in-kind donations in the financial records
• Examine accounting records to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to standards within the department
• Regularly maintain detailed reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts
• Support internal and external audit of financial processes and statements
• Serve as back-up for payroll processing, when necessary
• Assist with developing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures
• Work with CFO in developing the agency annual budget as well as budgets for various funding opportunities and special projects.
• Work with CFO on monthly and year-end journal entries and preparing annual audit schedules and documentation
• Stay abreast of changes within the field

Qualifications
Our ideal candidate possesses a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related discipline, required; proficiency in accounting software programs, MIP preferred; and working knowledge of FASB standards related to nonprofit entities. The candidate must also possess 3 years’ accounting management experience; a demonstrated expert skill level with Microsoft Excel (nested IF statements, VLOOKUP’s, pivot tables, macros, etc.); and nonprofit accounting experience, preferred.
