*About This Position   *

HaptX is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead multiple projects and help us define the project management culture in the company. In this vital and impactful role, you will drive the success of HaptX’s projects, help define the project management process, and shape the future of the company. This position will own projects big and small throughout the organization, primarily focusing on our HaptX SDK project, but also supporting one-off VR content projects or software R&D projects as needed.  This role focuses on the execution of the project rather than the strategy of the product. The Project Manager will work closely with project sponsors, engineering, and product management to develop timelines, budgets, and milestones that accomplish the needs of sales, engineering, fundraising, and the end customer.  As changes happen, the Project Manager will drive the change control process and companywide communication.  The ideal candidate has a firm understanding of what it takes to bring a cutting-edge enterprise product to market. 

 
HaptX’s products are designed by a multidisciplinary team and the Project Manager must understand the development requirements for mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software deliverables. This position reports to the VP of Engineering and is open to applicants for either the Redmond, WA or San Luis Obispo, CA offices.   *Key Responsibilities   *

• Work with engineering and product leadership to establish policies and procedures for scoping and executing projects
• Manage multiple projects comprising a mixture of technologies
• Create and oversee project schedule, and ensure timely completion of tasks throughout all phases 
• Perform work breakdowns based on product requirements to create trackable tasks
• Prioritize tasks with an eye toward a critical path
• Create, groom, and maintain project backlogs
• Allocate project resources efficiently, request additional resources when needed, and communicate with functional managers when team members are under or over-allocated 
• Create and maintain detailed project documentation, including project plan, requirements, and performance metrics 
• Communicate expectations to stakeholders, and manage the process through scoping, proposal/estimate creation, kick-off, planning, specification setting, execution, testing, reporting, and project closure 
• Be the first to speak up when the project expectation might deviate from reality and execute the change control process to realign the organization 
• Drive efficiency and implement the appropriate amount of project management required, whether a multi-year company critical project or a summer intern project 
• Perform risk management assessments 
  
• Manage the progress and deliverables of third-party vendors/contractors as needed 
• Establish quantitative and qualitative goals for projects 
• Make formal presentations to project stakeholders 
• Provide project leadership to a multi-disciplinary team 
• Coordinate a geographically distributed team 
• Maintain a general understanding of HaptX products, technologies, and services 
• Quarterly travel between HaptX offices 

 
*Required Qualifications   *

• 6+ years of relevant technical experience, including 4+ years’ of direct project management experience leading product-focused projects
  
• Experience with Waterfall and various Agile methodologies, and the proven ability to determine the best approach for a project’s specific needs
• Proven track record managing projects with multiple tech stacks 
• Previous experience managing projects with remote engineering team members 
• Experience utilizing industry-standard project management tools, e.g., Microsoft Project, SmartSheets, Jira, Confluence, etc.
• Demonstrated previous responsibility for multiple concurrent projects 
• Strong presentation skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills 
• Resolve issues quickly, confidently, and effectively
  
• Must be able to simultaneously focus on the big picture, details, and driving results 
• B.S. in Computer Science or another related technical field; or equivalent industry experience  
• You are a team player with a friendly, positive attitude. You are comfortable wearing multiple hats and have a genuine willingness to help out where help is needed.

• Residence in or willingness to relocate to the Redmond, Washington

*Desired Skills and Experience   *

• PMP, CSM, or similar certification 
• Strong passion for virtual reality (VR), robotics, and wearable technologies 
• Working with hardware teams
• Creating project documentation templates 
• Implementing a project management process from the ground up 

• Managing projects that followed concurrent engineering
