The Role

–Biomedical Principal Engineer –

Biomedical Value Stream – Full-time

We are looking for a qualified Biomedical Principal Engineer to lead our fun, fast-paced team of creative professionals. If you have a track record of successful mechanical designs in the Biomedical Device field for at least 10+ years, we would like to meet you.

Our ideal candidate is self-motivated, has exceptional oral and written communication skills and can develop User-centric, clean, efficient designs with minimal supervision. You should be able to develop and guide younger engineers across multiple projects. Experience with handpiece ergonomics is required. You should be able to help develop and maintain a schedule and assist in estimating a project. You should be able to collect and analyze Voice of Customer data. You should be able to utilize a variety of manufacturing processes, including 3D printing, machining, plastic injection molding, and sheet metal fabrication techniques. You will have extensive experience designing RF vessel sealers and ablation devices for high-volume Production. You should have experience designing both capital equipment and disposable devices. Reusable device design experience is also a plus. You should demonstrate a love of learning.

Ultimately, you should be able to act as a brand ambassador and manage the mechanical design team from blank page to manufacturing transition. You will work on developing a wide variety of products in medical device industries.

In addition to running, creating, prototyping, and testing for a project, you will assist in other product design activities as required, participate in sales calls, and perform other miscellaneous jobs around the office. It is a small company after all!

Has strong ability to identify and track relevant project metrics
Hands-on experience with prototyping and Ergonomics/Usability Research

BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field, and 10+ years of experience
Key Activities:

The below is not a complete list but describes some of the typical tasks for this role.

Shop Activities

Scope, maintain, and assist in purchasing equipment
Assist with Human Resources activities such as collecting and sorting resumes, attending job fairs, etc.
Design Activities

Participate in brainstorm activities and Product Research
Participate in product Usability and Verification/Validation testing
Develop Product Requirements
Perform Design and Analysis, including hand calculations, FEA, and bench testing
Lead Design Review activities
Mentor younger engineers
Participate in prototype builds and low-volume manufacturing
Lead documentation activities and manufacturing transfer
Limited travel to vendors and customers (<25% of time)
Customer Experience Activities

Respond to comments and customer inquiries in a timely manner
Stay up to date on new services and equipment
Build relationships with customers and industry professionals
Stay up to date with relevant technology and design trends
Attend Sales Calls and Visits as needed (<25% of time)
Typical Hours: 30-40 hours per week
