The Role

As a Senior Program Manager you will lead all or a large portion of the program function in your region, with the authority and accountability to achieve all program related goals, most importantly as regards quality. You will set annual program goals with your Regional Director, keep him or her apprised of our progress, proactively identify and solve challenges, and manage your team which includes Program Managers, Site Coordinators, and instructors to achieve your annual goals. Your responsibilities will change and grow as you develop. Opportunities for advancement include opening new regional offices, transitioning to lead larger regional offices, spearheading quality improving initiatives at the national office, and taking full control of the Greater Boston programs as current program leadership continue their in-progress transition to a national role. This is an ideal opportunity for a strong ambitious program manager with a passion for and background in STEM education and informal learning to make a meaningful difference in the lives of hundreds of young people in the state.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is $65,000 - $80,000 annually. This is a full-time position that includes benefits.

Position Overview

What You Will Do

Run high quality Empow STEM after-school and camp programs on budget for thousands of students

  • Manage and coach instructors to implement with fidelity Empow’s defined pedagogy, curriculum, and program design
  • Review program metrics and student progress; identify risks and solve problems to ensure high quality results for each student, teacher, and school partner; achieve or exceed quality benchmarks
  • Manage program planning and operations. Balance minute details and high-level strategy. Make sound decisions under tight deadlines.
  • Leverage national and peer resources, share best practices, and identify and advocate for needed improvements in nationally provided curriculum, technology, and other program supports
  • Establish program budgets in partnership with your Regional Director and manage programs to budget

Build strong relationships with families and schools

  • Directly and in partnership with your Regional Director and team educate potential and current customers about the range of Empow programs; help them find the programs that best meet their needs
  • Ensure strong communications with families including instructor progress reports and tailored recommendations
  • Ensure that instructors build strong mentor relationships with their students, and students build friendships with each other
  • Lead your team to manage relationships with school partners, ensuring that our instructors, technology, curriculum, and support staff are working together to achieve stated goals

Build, develop and manage your team

  • Lead your team to recruit, hire, train, coach and retain an exceptional program team that includes one or more program managers, and dozens of STEM instructors and site directors
  • Gather and analyze qualitative and quantitative data on instructors using direct observation, surveys, and other methods
  • Leverage your teaching, classroom management and STEM expertise, the expertise of your instructors, and national resources to continuously improve the capabilities of your team

*STEM and teaching *

  • Familiar with much of the breadth of Empow’s STEM curriculum and deep expertise in at least one domain
  • High level of success teaching classes and developing teachers
  • Proven passion for STEM and/or digital arts, education and youth

Team

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team to achieve outstanding results
  • Experienced recruiting, hiring, training staff, and gathering and analyzing data in support of professional development

Relationships

  • Demonstrated ability to build authentic relationships with a broad range of stakeholders including children, families, and school leaders
  • Proven ability to work with and marshal the support of a wide range of internal stakeholders including peers, subject matter experts, and team leaders
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills

Program Management

  • At least two years’ experience managing high quality educational programs in either K-12 or informal learning environment such as a museum, after-school program, or camp
  • Demonstrated success developing and managing complicated project plans with multiple initiatives on widely varying schedules; able to to zoom into the smallest details and zoom out to identify systemic issues

Other

  • Willing to commute to the different locations you manage on a regular basis (generally within 30 minute drive)
  • Ideally -- but not required -- interested in opportunities to open one or more new east coast locations in the next few years
  • Flexibility and adaptability in your work schedule, including some evenings and weekends
  • A BA/BS degree or higher in education or a STEM field or appropriate equivalent experience is required; higher level degrees are a big plus
