Job Summary:
The role will have a wide variety of responsibilities ranging from data science to data engineering, to backend software development. The data science aspects include researching public policy and industry objectives and applying that research into developing methodology and models for new functionality. The data engineering scope focuses on scaling methodology and models into production using ETL. Backend work focuses on exporting data in various formats to the end-user. Throughout each part of the role, maintaining data quality control with continuous validation is essential.

Responsibilities Include:
• Building the SaaS platform (Civian), strengthening the existing version and developing new functionality
• Developing the platform’s backend, specifically storage, retrieval, and processing of vast amounts of data via:
• Using Google Cloud Platform, specifically Compute Engine, Cloud Functions, Big Query, Cloud Storage, and Cloud SQL.
• Python scripts inside Google Cloud Platform to call APIs and upload data
• SQL scripts to process/aggregate data
• Implementing practical machine learning methods to create additional value for users from our data

• Implementing best-in-class algorithms and coding infrastructure to ensure the security and reliability of the product
• Creating technology workflow to deliver robust, flexible, and scalable platforms that meet product evolution needs

• Staying up to date on new technologies and methods with a focus on implementing them into Civian
• Taking part in an environment that promotes selfless leadership, constant collaboration, and excellence.

• Researching different legislative rules as they pertain to corporate reporting
• Identifying novel data sources for the product

*Qualifications Include: *

Education:
• BS or MS in computer/data science, engineering, math, physical sciences, or any other quantitative field
• Bootcamp certificates will be accepted

Experience
• 1- 3 years professional experience including non-academic internships (recent graduates with exceptional project portfolio/GitHub with also be considered)
• A modern approach to agile software development and top-level design, with a high value on creativity, attention to detail, and collaborative hard work
• Developing business metrics to track progress towards objectives

Technical skills:

• Python
• Relational databases and SQL

Nice to Haves:
• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform
• Exposure to Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
• Practical experience with machine learning
