The Role
Hager Environmental and Atmospheric Technologies (HEAT), headquartered in Knoxville, TN, is searching for an in-house Software Programmer with a focus in Python, AWS, and SQL/Database. HEAT is a cutting-edge environmental company using a one-of-a-kind NASA spinoff technology to detect and measure on-road vehicle emissions. HEAT has made an impact worldwide with this groundbreaking remote sensing device and is building a software team to meet the demands of a growing client base.
Our preferred candidate should be creative and have an eagerness to work with exciting technology in a small company atmosphere. They should be very comfortable with software development in a commercial setting and should be able to work in a fast-paced environment to meet tight deadlines. The ideal candidate must be able to wear many different hats and be able to contribute to a range of projects from initial development from the ground up to application improvement to a database or portal maintenance.

Qualifications:
A candidate for this position MUST:
- Script in the Python programming language.
- Run automated data analysis and other routine processes with scripts.
- Manage an SQLite, MySQL, or PostgreSQL database.
- Write advanced SQL queries.
- Be an Amazon Web Service Expert and use AWS resources like EC2 instances and EBS storage.
- An AWS Certification would be a plus but not required.
- Have IT skills.
- Program and maintain servers.
- Manage and analyze data.
- Generate reports.
- Implement security measures in developed applications that comply with government requirements.
- Competently navigate a Linux shell (i.e. ssh).
- Use Git comfortably.
- Intelligently and helpfully document their code.
- Experience with web servers (i.e. Apache or Nginx).
A candidate MUST:
- Be authorized to work in the United States (We are unable to offer sponsorship at this time).
- Pass a background check and drug test.
- Live in or be willing to move to Knoxville, Tennessee to work in-house (we are not offering remote work at this time).
Finally, a candidate SHOULD:
- Be familiar with the Python Django framework.
- Possess a Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.
- Have 2 or more years of working experience.
- Experience with remote servers and moving large amounts of data.
- Be able to pass a skills assessment.
Additional languages or skills that would be a bonus:
- C++.
- Troubleshooting.
- Flexibility and ability to think outside the box.

- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Work on-call on occasion.
