The Role

Simplesense helps those who help others. Emergency operators and first responders rely on a complex mix of legacy and modern information systems to coordinate actions during emergency incidents. However, these systems do not always interoperate well with one another, resulting in lower operational efficiency, poorer situational awareness, and slower response times. In emergency situations, response times can often be the difference between life and death. Simplesense integrates data and technologies to help operators and responders get the information they need to react faster in emergency incidents.

Simplesense is the prime contractor on the Air Force's Installation Resilience Operations Center (IROC) contract and is hiring to fill immediate needs to support the deployment of advanced technology to connect and secure civil engineering technologies for greater base awareness capabilities.

The Head of People is a crucial position that will help set the stage for the next phase of growth at Simplesense. We are rapidly growing and adding talent to execute on our mission to help those helping others.

As the Head of People at Simplesense, you will:

  • Oversee all aspects of people at Simplesense -- recruiting, retention, benefits
  • Help build a positive work culture by fostering an inclusive, collaborative workplace and the psychological safety required for employees to be successful
  • Track HR legal and compliance requirements and update/manage policies to conform
  • Manage and review yearly performance review process
  • Update, review, and maintain company handbook, benefits documents, and HR policies and regulations
  • Review and ensure equitable compensation across positions
  • Build talent sourcing strategies and bolster our existing channels and tracking systems
  • Modify and implement efficient and scalable recruiting processes
  • Review applicants, phone screen, and manage interview process
  • Create a great candidate experience and positive impression of Simplesense
  • Work on employment branding initiatives with our marketing team
  • Manage onboarding and offboarding processes for team members
  • Work alongside the CEO to build team culture
  • Be the primary point-of-contact for benefits issues that employees may have
  • Engage with and manage external legal HR counsel, when required
  • Guide and ensure ethical hiring and people practices
  • Be a part of the Executive Management Team, partnering with company leadership to accomplish objectives
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local requirements
  • Develop strategies for improving employee productivity and morale

Requirements

  • An aptitude for problem solving and independent thinking
  • At least 4 years of people management, including full cycle technical recruiting and a track record of successful hires and happy employees
  • Experience interviewing and evaluating talent with ability to screen for both technical and cultural qualities
  • Demonstrated track record of success in building, managing, and improving internal processes
  • Love of documentation
  • Resourceful in using creative tools to identify and attract highly in-demand talent
  • Highly flexible and adaptable to changing environments and shifting priorities
  • A desire to join a small, nimble team and help grow an early-stage company
  • Appropriate certifications and training (e.g. SHRM)

Benefits
