The Role

If so, Oxford Heartbeat is the place for you. We are looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer with excellent computation modelling and programming skills who shares our vision. What will this role involve? You will be part of the Research and Development team and directly responsible for developing innovative algorithms to emulate the behaviour of medical devices in a simulated world. You will measure and evaluate the behaviour of real devices with bench studies and FEA models, create new test methods, and perform verification studies. On top of that, you will be developing and improving algorithms, which contribute to the performance and accuracy of our application.

The results of your work will play a transformative role in improving current clinical practice and the way brain surgeries are performed. You will be part of something truly meaningful. Solid theoretical knowledge of engineering and mathematical modelling principles is fundamental for the role. Candidates must have extensive experience with computational modelling, numerical methods, FEA/FEM, and must have a solid and demonstrated creative approach to mechanical engineering.

Must haves:

  • PhD / MSc in Mechanical Engineering or in a related discipline
  • At least 2 years of experience
  • Experience with computational modelling
  • Experience with Abaqus, Ansys or similar engineering packages
  • Demonstrable coding ability
  • Experience in medical applications

Nice to have:

  • Experience implementing FEA/FEM models
  • Experience with in vitro / physical bench testing of medical devices
  • Peer-reviewed publications in engineering
  • C# / Python / MATLAB coding skills
  • Experience working under a Quality Management System (ideally ISO 13485)
