As the Tax Manager at Mapbox, you will be our first internal Tax hire, working as part of the larger Accounting & Finance team. You will build, lead and evolve a strong global tax foundation to support our rapid growth and complexity expansion. You will lead tax planning, reporting and compliance, prepare or manage preparation, execution and payment of filings of all tax types in all local and global locations, develop great relationships with key external and internal stakeholders (like our valued network of external tax advisors and the Exec, Accounting & Finance, Legal, HR teams). What you’ll do

• Responsible for completion and proper review of all tax returns
• Serve as the internal and external point of contact for all tax related inquiries / analyses
• Support month end close process by preparing tax-related journal entries and reconciling tax general ledger accounts
• Ensure accurate and timely filing of income taxes for state, local, federal and foreign jurisdictions.
• Manage nexus studies and determination of nexus in relevant US and global jurisdictions
• Research newly enacted and proposed legislations and impact on the Company’s financial position
• Lead company tax planning and optimization efforts for existing and future business activities
• Manage various tax-related projects including maintenance and updating of the Company’s transfer pricing structure, inter-company agreements, R&D tax credits, and other applicable tax matters
• Maintain comprehensive global tax calendar with timing and nature of all tax filing or payment deadlines
• Provide strategic review and tax guidance for customer and vendor contracts, advice on contracting entity, and assess and minimize withholding taxes where applicable
• Manage the utilization and expense of external tax advisors where needed
 
 

What We Believe are Important Traits for This Role

• BA/BS or equivalent, Masters preferred
• 5+ years of tax experience, with some international tax experience
• CPA required
• Strong analytical skills, high attention to detail and ability to multi-task
• Superior written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills
