Note from Versatile VC
Versatile VC backs early-stage companies which help investors generate alpha and succeed. For example, we’re investors (via prior funds) in alternative data, investment research, back-office tech, marketplaces for private companies, and marketing tech to help gather assets.
We offer SPV syndicates to co-invest with our Fund I when there is capacity; time to run a Syndicate; and the CEO agrees for us to do so. We also plan to offer follow-ons in Fund I companies in Series C, D, E and right up to final investment rounds. Some of our angels take board seats and play an active role in the overall VC process on a flexible / no-minimum-time commitment basis; others are purely passive. Angels refer deals, can help with due diligence, and/or participate in our meetings and events.
Our founder, David Teten, is Chair of PEVCtech, a community of family office, private equity, and VC funds making better investments through technology and analytics. He is a Venture Partner with Coolwater Capital, the "Y Combinator for emerging VCs". Coolwater has incubated and helped launch >200 funds which have collectively raised >$2b. He also founded in 2010 and chaired HBS Alumni Angels of Greater NY, now the East Coast’s largest angel group.
David was previously Managing Partner at HOF Capital. David joined HOF as the first outside Partner shortly after the firm started raising its Fund I, with $7m AUM. David worked on all aspects of building HOF, including serving as lead on fintech investments. Today, based on strong returns, HOF has over $1.2b AUM with LPs from 37 countries.
David was earlier a Partner with ff Venture Capital. ff Rose Innovate NY has the highest Net Multiple (9.5x); highest DPI (294.2%); and second highest net IRR (36.7%) of any 2013 North American early-stage VC fund (Preqin data). He joined the founding Partner as the first outside Partner in 2011 when ffVC had $10m AUM and two employees. When he left to join HOF after 6 years, ffVC had >$150m in AUM and 25 employees. David worked on almost all aspects of building ffVC, with particular focus on fintech investments, Canadian investments, and building out the ffVC platform. He served on the boards of Authorea (sold to Wiley), Earnest Analytics (Observer), Ionic (sold to Twilio), Signup.com, & Whisk (sold to Deem).
David has advised institutional investors such as Birch Hill Equity, Coolwater Capital, Goldman Sachs Special Situations Group, Icahn Enterprises, LLR Partners, OTMT Investments (Sawiris family office), Real Ventures, the Reichard family office, Right Side Capital, and Tiferes.vc.
David was previously a Managing Director with Evalueserve, a 2,500-person global research company, and Founder and CEO of Circle of Experts, an investment research firm acquired by Evalueserve. He also founded Teten Recruiting, which he sold to Accolo, a recruiting process outsourcing firm backed by Altos Ventures. He worked with Bear Stearns’ Investment Banking division in their technology/defense M&A team. He also founded an outsourced software engineering/IT consulting group. David holds a Harvard MBA (2nd Year Honors) and a Yale BA.
