What I Do
I have been a freelance translator for over 40 years, 33 on a part-time basis, and 10 years full-time.
Spanish is my first native language as I have lived in Chile most of my life. English is my second native language, learned since I was born in a British-Chilean community.
Maybe the most impressive thing I have done, in terms of terminology research for translation, was reviewing and translating a series of short texts from over 30 different highly specialised fields (from micro fuel cells, through cognitive science, to plasma physics) for the Max Planck Science Tunnel Exhibition from English to Spanish. As nobody can be an expert in so many fields, searching for the correct terms is a big challenge.
