We have a couple companies in the collaborative consumption space and top of mind for them is online verified reputation and identity. Big problem, big market to tackle. An easy to use API is needed so these companies can focus on their core product/business.
Arguably the most important opportunity on the web today: verified identity and reputation online.
Sam is the definition of hustle and will win, no matter what. I've met both Dana and Sam and they have the right 1-2 punch to tackle this. Go Scaffold.
Scaffold is tackling an extremely important problem on the web in general and for P2P marketplaces in particular. The top reason transactions don't happen on marketplaces websites is the Fear/Uncertainty/Doubt involved when two parties come together for the first time.
Trust, identity, and safety in online environments are concerns that have been around since the time of eBay. But they only grow in importance when you're talking about transactions involving your most precious assets such as your home (eg, airbnb), you car (eg, getaround), and even your children (eg,sittercity)!
Scaffold has a robust product strategy to verify identity, ensure safety through background checks, and carry reputation and ratings across properties.
Sam is a total hustler who literally flew out to the Bay Area on a moment's notice and slept on a friend's couch when Dave McClure asked him to join the 500 Startups Accelerator class. He built up a strong network and worked tirelessly in the months he spent in the Bay. He's product driven, completely in-tune with what's happening in tech right now, and is as tenacious as they come. Dana is a super skilled developer and technical cofounder. With his Google and startup experience, he's seen/done it before and knows how to bring the product vision to life. They're a strong founding team and I've seen them do a lot of the right things in their first few months to make sure they get off to a good start.
In summary, I think the market need for the product is clear and two of the strongest entrepreneurs I know will execute the hell out of it. Get in early so you don't miss this.
Disclosure: I'm an adviser for Scaffold and have worked with them for a few months. FWIW, this is only the second time I've been willing to sign on as an official adviser since time is my scarcest resource!
