This was a super fun project to work on after focusing on the Flash version of the Vimeo Player for a while. This project evolved out of an afternoon of playing around with designs in response to a request from Google that we be one of the initial apps on the upcoming GoogleTV launch. I ended up designing and developing the project, along with some help from Kevin Sweeney on the first version.
The user interface was developed to be easily navigated using a standard remote, but works user mouse and touch input as well. And the overall experience was to be very immersive, with a priority of watching content opposed to navigating through it.
This was the first project where we explored how to best handle the browser and file format inconsistencies between HTML5 and Flash. A lot of the approach that we ended up using in the HTML5 Vimeo Player evolved from the explorations that went into this project.
A monthly gathering focused on productivity and community.
Creating a space where people can come together and work on their projects, while also being able to share knowledge, tips & tricks, and constructive feedback with one another. As well as making a social commitment to the group to work on their projects to stay motivated.
Developed the concept, designed and built the site and marketing materials, and have been hosting and conducting the events.
My first project while at Vimeo was rewriting the Vimeo Video Player, which is used by millions of users to watch billions of videos per month. During my time at Vimeo, I was able to work on a wide variety of projects, from video players, TV apps, rich web applications and beyond.
Building software and applications that are both properly technically implemented and provide a delightful experience for the people who use them is what I enjoy most.
