We are building hardware & software to (re)meet a basic human need: shelter. Our initial product is the Exo Housing System – a smart, highly portable sheltering system that is light enough to be moved by hand but strong enough to stop bullets and packs more connectivity than a modern home. The ecosystem is comprised of several products including the innovative Exo shelter unit, which is the foundational component of the system. Each Exo flats packs for extremely efficient transportation/storage and can be setup in under 2 minutes without the need for any tools or heavy machinery. In addition to the Exo, we also offer Populous, our inventory & asset management system. Each Exo has embedded wireless tech to allow real time reporting and system control to the Populous app. Populous allows customers to manage a single deployment or the entire inventory. Reaction is so disruptive that has not only gotten the attention of FEMA, NASA, and Apple but we have visited all of them by invitation.
Each Exo is comprised of a proprietary composite shell and aluminum super structure that can be made literally bullet proof but is extremely light weight and recyclable. Even with the advanced product design, anyone that can build an aluminum boat can build an Exo.
Within each Exo you'll find both active and passive electronic systems. The passive system tracks physical inventory while the active system makes lighting, climate control, security and remote monitoring possible. With the active electronics package onboard, we can easily lock and unlock doors remotely, report data from the current temperature to flame/smoke detection and even track long-term performance and efficiency of the units. Overseeing this mesh network is our proof-of-concept Node.js server, which orchestrates the microcontroller endpoints (listening for and dispatching events, persisting data to a database) and provides a web-based user interface to manage and monitor the devices.
In 2005, Michael McDaniel watched in helpless horror as Hurricane Katrina forced thousands of people out of their homes and into crowded, under-equipped "shelters". Growing up in Mississippi where he weathered lots of hurricanes with his family, he was appalled with the aftermath of Katrina and knew there had to be a better solution.
Over the years through his design and leadership roles across the design industry, he has now assembled a tremendously talented and passionate team for Reaction.
We are passionate about creating products that change the world for the better.
The Reaction team is comprised of some of the world's absolute best designers, technologists, and business minds with a combined almost 6 decades of experience. The team is backed up by an advisory board that brings industry leading experience in manufacturing, mass production, and business together. We have been working with FEMA & others for years to refine our system not to be a product but a real solution.
Michael has 14 years of design experience across industrial, interaction, and graphic design. Prior to working full time at Reaction, Michael was a Principal Designer at the world renowned, frog design. At frog Michael led large, diverse teams to solve very complex problems for a variety of Fortune 100 clients. His work generated client filed patents and has won numerous awards. In fact, his work has been featured on NPR, CNN and in publications like the Atlantic, Wired, GOOD, and Fast Company.
