NimbusBase provides an iCloud alternative that uses users' personal cloud storage (Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft SkyDrive) to store their app data. We work across all platforms: iOS, Android, Windows phone, desktop and web. NimbusBase can sync the data on an iOS device with data on an Android device and make the data accessible on the web. By integrating with users' free cloud storage, we provide data ubiquity for app users and dramatically reduce scaling costs for developers.
NimbusBase takes the approach of syncing a local database with a remote personal cloud storage provider. The user writes to a local database with their data changes, and NimbusBase then syncs that data to within their Dropbox or Google Drive account. Because the local database is offline, we work offline also. We also solves the problem of merging different entries from multiple devices.
We met in 2010 through a mutual friend and briefly worked on a couponing site together. Ray reached out to Alex in October 2012 to become a co-founder of NimbusBase. Ray is the CTO and spends time developing the product and working with our customer base. Alex is the COO and oversees business strategy and outreach. We share the same vision of user clouds powering the future and love working together due to our complementary skill sets (tech vs biz, focus on detail vs big picture).
Today, everyone has a computer, smartphone and tablet. People want to access their app data across all their devices. For developers, providing this data continuity is a challenging problem with no great solutions. Ray, while building cross-platform html5 apps, reached the same problem. His solution was to host the data on Dropbox and sync the data on each device. He realized that you can do this for other cloud services like Google Drive and platforms like Android. NimbusBase was born.
