Summary
We will lead syndicates in a select group of companies with a strong focus in technology and/or retail/e-commerce. We have early access into the entrepreneurship ecosystem at top-tier universities and have been able to leverage this access to participate in early stage deals at Warby Parker, Harry’s, Milo (acq eBay), RJMetrics, etc. Through our entrepreneurship, consulting, and research experience we also have significant domain knowledge in the technology and retail space.
Who are the leads?
Kartik is a Professor of Technology & Digital Business at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. His research work focuses on Internet media, Internet marketing, mobile and e-commerce analytics.
Kartik is a cofounder of Yodle Inc, a venture-backed firm that has been listed among the top 50 fastest growing private firms in the US.
He has served on the advisory board of Milo Inc (acq by eBay) and is involved with other startups as either an investor or board member.
David is a Professor at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He is an expert in consumer shopping behavior. David is the author of Location is (Still) Everything: The Surprising Influence of the Real World on How We Search, Shop, and Sell in the Virtual One.
David enjoys working with entrepreneurs who are founding the next generation of great retail companies. His notable investments include Aloha, Bonobos, Harry’s and Warby Parker.
He also advises funds such as Brand Foundry Ventures and invests indirectly via specialist funds such as Female Founders Fund, Lead Edge Capital, and Pacific Channel Ventures.
Investment Strategy
Proprietary early access to top-tier university entrepreneurship ecosystem: We are the first point of contact for startups that are coming straight out of college. We also have deep knowledge about the entrepreneurs behind the startups. Most of our deals will be with entrepreneurs that we have known for a reasonable period of time (typically more than 6 months).
Focus Sectors: Technology (within which 50% deals will be B2B and focused on data, analytics, and the Internet of Things) AND Retail/e-commerce (e.g., apparel and accessories, eyewear, grooming, health and wellness). Kartik and Dave have deep expertise in Tech and Retail respectively.
