I've been successful with writing, operations, business development, market research, communications, and the other various things that fall to the non-technical founder. Outside of work, I take pride in community service, both in committing my time and in setting up service projects for others.Describe what you have done, what you are doing, and the kinds of things you are interested in.
I'm proud of my time served as an AmeriCorps VISTA member, providing ~4,500 hours of volunteer effort over two years on a poverty-level living stipend to improve College Forward’s organizational capacity and efficiency. Things I did while there include
- Wrote or assisted with the writing of 23 grant proposals, netting College Forward ~$3 million in program funding.
- Overhauled their bookkeeping processes, program and project budgeting, and accounting policies and procedures, for better forecasting and financial reporting; and
- Handled high-level fiscal responsibilities, including preparing for audits from independent accountants and government agencies, filing tax returns, and providing financial statements to interested parties.
- Helped motivated, low-income high school students to enter college beyond job requirements by assisting with after-school work sessions, helping students complete financial aid forms and scholarships, and by working at parent education eventsDescribe the most impressive thing you've done.
