Job Description

Hive is a customer data and email platform used by thousands of brands to personalize and automate their marketing campaigns.

Our technology helps brands sell more stuff, while keeping their customers happy and engaged.

First, we gather terabytes of customer and contact data from platforms like Shopify, MailChimp, Facebook, Instagram and more. Next, we infer as much data about a brand’s customers as possible, and unify it all into individual customer profiles.

All of this data is available in a robust CRM that makes it easy for brands to segment and tag their contacts based on hundreds of attributes. Using these dynamic segments, our clients create and automate email marketing campaigns to their millions of customers • sending more timely, targeted and engaging emails than ever before.

We started our company inside a University of Waterloo computer lab in early 2014, graduated from Y Combinator that summer (S14 batch) and have been growing ever since. You’ll be #4 on our product & engineering team in Waterloo.

We’re looking for a resourceful designer with some comfort on the front end, who also loves the intersection between e-commerce and marketing.

Job Responsibilities:

• You'll be the first member of our product/engineering team specifically tasked with owning end-to-end design. We’re proud of what we've done so far, but we’re growing and there’s lots to improve!
• When you’re not thinking through the user experience, you'll be working with our engineers to ship functional designs that help our customers reach their goals.
• You’ll be responsible for balancing thoughtful UX, clean and consistent UI, and delightful copy, while iterating with the team to make something that people love
• You'll contribute to our roadmap and help decide what we build next
• You’ll get feedback from everyone (especially our customers), and learn how prioritize what gets incorporated into future product iterations
• You'll own whatever you design and build, and you’ll get to see it used by your favourite brands, artists, celebrities, and their millions of customers

Required Skills:

• Passionate about building things. You've got side projects you're proud of and you probably browse Dribbble, Behance or Product Hunt regularly
• You love thoughtful, clean design with an emphasis on usability and customer needs
• You've designed and built products before. We're looking for someone who has a handle on pushing a design from ideation to production, using their choice of tools
• You've built things with the front-end of our stack before or can Google and learn how to quickly:
  ◦ We primarily use HTML & CSS, Javascript/jQuery
  ◦ Bonus points if you have some experience shipping web applications (Django, Rails, NodeJS, etc)!
• You might have a CS or Engineering degree, an arts degree, or something else, or maybe you dropped out, or didn't even go to school. Our team is made up of all kinds of smart people.

Bottom line... We're looking for curious, hardworking, and down to earth people, who are passionate about helping brands build enduring relationships with their customers. You'll be well taken care of: meaningful equity, salary, and the benefits you need to be happy & healthy.

Finally (and most importantly), culture is important to us. After a few days of hard work, you've got to know how to have fun - our team loves everything from concerts and music festivals, to ski trips and tech talks - and of course, whatever you’re in to!

Hive is a customer data and email platform used by thousands of brands to personalize and automate their marketing campaigns.

Our technology helps brands sell more stuff, while keeping their customers happy, engaged, and spending money.

We take billions of customer data points from platforms like Shopify, Mailchimp, Facebook, Instagram and more, infer as much knowledge as possible (using some really awesome technology), and then unify, organize, and segment customer profiles based on hundreds of attributes.
