Black history-themed fitness tournament
Can you walk it out like Harriet Tubman!? Ever walked the distance of a Montgomery Bus Boycotter? This is a Black-history themed walking tournament that pits churches, sororities, neighborhoods and family teams against each other in a fun head-to-head monthly competition to walk off the pounds, earn street credit and win cool gear and prizes! Teams of exactly 10 women register, lace up their sneakers and start walking. The app does the rest. On the final day of each month, the winning team in announced!! Our goal: To inspire an army of one million Black women and girls to walk with GirlTrek by 2018! We walk to heal our bodies, inspire our daughters and reclaim the streets of our neighborhoods. Ready, set, trek!

This gamified application is:

• a competition delivery system,
• an inspiring social network and
• fitness-tracking platform.

It leverages urban culture and Black history to engage and inspire women and girls to walk in the footsteps of their heroes.
