FLYR’s core product team writes the services that deliver the value of our real-time prediction and tracking technologies to consumers. Our services and APIs are used by our major travel industry partners to provide our offerings to millions of consumers, and we are expanding in 2017 with more partners and to offer new ways to help consumers purchase travel.
This role will lead engineering work, partnering with product management, to design and implement new features and capabilities for our travel industry partners and for consumers when purchasing travel. Our product engineering team bridges the gap between the possibilities of data science and the realities of delivering reliable high performance service offerings at consumer-internet scale.
This is a software development position on our core product development team. Day-to-day responsibilities on our dev team include architecting and implementing new APIs and new services, engineering performance and efficiency improvements to our services, and coding new transaction processing workflows and event-driven features.
This senior role will work closely with leadership to understand and influence strategic product directions while translating those into appropriate API designs and service architectures required to support new product offerings. Senior members of our technical team are responsible for mentoring junior engineers and helping us grow a culture of engineering excellence and test-driven development. Senior engineers at FLYR provide evaluation and guidance to management on engineering options, and need to present detailed technical findings to managers and peers around tradeoffs in performance, capabilities, and costs.
We’re looking for skilled software developers that are passionate about taking on new challenges in resolving the problems encountered by anyone booking their travel plans. FLYR is fast-paced, fast-growing startup that keeps teams small and gives our engineers complete ownership of their projects and every team member has the ability to propose ideas for new products and improvements.

- Industry experience in Python and implementing APIs and database-backed transaction processing in Python. Skilled in designing and implementing Python-based services for quality and testability and scalability.
- Significant experience in high throughput transaction processing or low-latency event driven architectures.
- Ability to communicate complex topics to multiple audiences in order to help create a common roadmap between product management, product engineering, and data science.
- Familiarity with deployment in Kubernetes and Google Cloud Platform a strong plus.
For the longest time, innovation in travel has been driven by a focus on the distribution of more, better or faster content to travelers. Sadly, innovation without the underlying product offering changing has its limits.
When we founded FLYR, we realized that particularly because of the industry’s focus on distribution, a wealth of data is available to those that can process its sheer volume. With access to various such data streams, we started understanding how products such as airline tickets are priced and what signals could help us to look into the future.
Using this insight, we create, price and distribute new financial solutions that enable travelers to lock a fare, pay over time (0% APR, No credit check), or get a discount thanks to a predicted near-future price arbitrage.
Our team consists of prize-winning data-scientists, software engineers that dream code at night, and business-building entrepreneurs with backgrounds in travel and enterprise technologies.
