David Weekly has built companies (PBwiki -> 4m users/mo, Ohana -> sold to Facebook), brought together nerds (SuperHappyDevHouse -> connecting thousands of nerds, Hacker Dojo -> world's largest non-profit hackerspace), and seen the other side of the table (founded Mexican.VC, the first Silicon Valley fund for Mexican tech entrepreneurs, was an EIR at Trinity Ventures). Now he's building the first drone fund and putting his own money in.
Why we're doing this
Drones are an emerging multi-billion dollar market, set to rewrite the rules of business in fields as diverse as precision agriculture, personal videography, and light goods transport. New forms of aerial imaging and precision inspection may allow for dangerous jobs typically performed by experts slung off the bottoms of helicopters or requiring elaborate gantries to be replaced by rapid and affordable drone scanning. This fund will give you unprecedented systematic access to drone startups.
