UPDATE: DASH FOR ANDROID LAUNCH: goo.gl/pSKgg0 JAN 21 2014
Dash built a technology solution that turns any car into a “smart car," by connecting your car to your smartphone.
Low-cost hardware purchased from any manufacturer can be self-installed under the dashboard, and pair via bluetooth or wifi to your smartphone, storing data in the cloud. The product works on all cars after 1996.
The proprietary Dash algorithm uses a variety of driver safety and efficiency metrics to generate the "Dash Score." The Score can be improved based on modified driving behavior, as well as, shared and compared with friends via the leaderboard. Higher scores may also pre-qualify drivers for special offers and discounts via third parties.
Feature sets include additional safety, saving, and social elements, such as: crash detection and 911 alerts, check engine light diagnostics, time and location triggers, parts and labor estimator, MPG analytics and ways to reduce gas costs, trip tracking, and more.
Our technology solution generates a rich data platform - "the automotive graph" - comprised of over 300 pooled data points from engine sensors, smartphone sensors, social profiles, and 3rd party APIs. Developers may gain access to and build on top of our proprietary API.
Our technology works on any car manufactured since 1996, allowing us to access car sensors through the government-mandated open OBD port. We are hardware agnostic, allowing customers to use their own OBD II device or purchase a low cost option from a variety of manufacturers. We are multi-platform web/iOS/Android, and our application is free.
Co-Founders Edis and Langel met in 2008, collaborating at HBO. Edis was a VP Emerging Technology R&D Group. Langel was a Technical Manager, working on the deployment of HBO GO, as well as, the software for boxing's PunchForce. Their complementary skill sets and joint interest in big data and telematics led them to pursue the as yet untapped consumer and enterprise opportunity around data sets inside cars.
In Spring 2013, Edis and Langel participated as one of 11 companies in Techstars NYC.
We want to make the roads smarter, safer, greener, more affordable and more social. We believe that smart connected devices and data can help improve the way in which we live our lives everyday. There is tremendous opportunity in building the 'automotive graph', a data platform for driving.
