Who are we?
Vinterior is the place where the world can buy and sell vintage furniture.
In less than three years, the Vinterior Marketplace has grown into a community of over 1,800 independent furniture dealers worldwide. We work only with selected professional sellers to ensure that our customers can find products that match the values that matter to us: character, a passion for craftsmanship and an obsession for delivering exceptional customer service.
The global furniture market is a $700 billion industry, with Europe alone spending over $313 billion in furniture retail last year. With the backing of top tier investors, we are on a mission to put Vinterior pieces in 1 million places within three years and create a world where everyone can work, live and play in a remarkable space.
About the Product team:
We’re currently a team of 6, comprising of 4 full stack engineers, 1 senior full stack engineer and the head of engineering.
As a team, we encourage (but don't force) pairing. We love to experiment and are currently doing weekly sprints with no formal ticket estimations.
We like to keep our tickets small and deploy early and often (we do multiple deploys every day).
We’re customer obsessed. We’re constantly asking ourselves if what we’re working on is solving a genuine problem.
Problems we’re solving…
With big ambitions come big problems. Here are some of the biggest challenges we face…
Furniture delivery is tricky. Currently, all our sellers manage the delivery themselves and we are looking at how we can help them provide an efficient and transparent delivery experience via our site so that the whole experience of using Vinterior right up to getting that big french farmhouse table up 3 flights of stairs to the customer's flat is as smooth as possible.
Helping our sellers to grow
Our sellers range from single person businesses to bigger and better resourced organisations. Our aim is to empower them to be the best sellers out there and grow their businesses. We recently released v1 of our seller analytics dashboard and we working on v2 now to help provide them with the insights they need to be successful on our platform.
As our inventory has continued to grow (we have over 150K items listed on Vinterior now and the number is always growing), the tools required to find that perfect piece of furniture buyers have been looking for also need to improve. This is a big problem domain for us and it ranges from developing a best in class search experience, SEO optimisation of our front-end category and product pages to help users find us on google, improving the performance of these pages to provide a fast user experience to working on improving our recommendations engine and product creation flows.
What does our Stack look like?
Our current setup is a MVC Rails application hosted on Heroku. Our front end uses modern JS tooling such as Webpack and React to power aspects of the customer experience as well as Rails ERB partials.

Collaborates well, loves learning
Self-taught, coding bootcamp or CS degree, we don’t care.
Bonus points if you have any of the following:
Experience with Ruby on Rails
Experience with ReactJS
Experience optimising the performance of rails application
Worked in a startup
Like to pair (but we won’t force you to!)
Working within mixed (onsite and remote) teams

What to expect when you apply:
You can expect to hear back from us within hours/days.
We’ll organise a quick phone call to talk you through the role and learn a bit more about you. This will likely be either with our COO or Head of Engineering.
We’ll aim to get you onsite/on video conference as soon as possible to see the office, do an interview with our Head of Engineering and one of the team, an interview with CEO/COO and do some pairing (working together to solve a problem). There will be no white boarding or technical grilling.
If all goes well we will make an offer to you as soon as possible. When we see the right person we want to hire them.
We’re lucky enough to be based in the heart of London in a vintage-inspired office above the All Saints shop near Spitalfields Market, Shoreditch.
We are open to hiring remote candidates and have fully remote employees.
Onsite engineers can work remotely two days a week, and we aim to be as flexible as possible with this to fit people's schedules.
Training budget for workshops, online training, conferences etc.
Book library (physical and Audible) for all employees.
31 days holiday a year (incl. UK bank holidays). Unpaid leave is also available.
Engineers get half a day learning time every week. We regularly hold knowledge sharing sessions with other engineers and the wider team.

Aldgate East - 5-minute walk (District, Hammersmith and City)
Shoreditch High Street - 5-minute walk (Overground)
Liverpool Street - 5-minute walk (Overground, Central, Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan)
We’re a short walk away from many bars and restaurants and we have regular team lunches and (non-mandatory) after work drinks.
