Variant Bio was recently founded in New York City with a simple idea: to use the enormous power of global human genetic diversity to discover a new generation of therapeutics. Our team is rapidly expanding, and we’re looking for a data scientist with diverse expertise, who isn't afraid to take on new challenges, and is as passionate about improving human health as we are. We’re seeking someone with experience using machine learning approaches to analyze large scale biomedical data and mine scientific literature.

The position responsibilities include:
- Working closely with a team of anthropologists, clinicians, geneticists, and bioinformaticians to develop machine learning approaches that effectively leverage large data sets to answer scientific questions in the context of human health.
- Designing models that integrate across rich genomic data to predict the impact of genetic variation on
human health.
- Creating a platform that mines scientific literature in order to link phenotypes to global populations.

The skills and qualifications required for the position are:
- Ph.D. in computer science, statistics, or a related field with a relevant dissertation.
- Machine learning expertise in the areas of deep learning and natural language processing.
- Strong coding proficiency in Python and R.

We’d prefer applicants with the following:
- At least two years of industry or post-doctoral experience.
- Basic understanding of biology in the context of human health.
- Ability to implement analysis pipelines in a cloud-based environment like Amazon Web Services.
- Experience working with genomic and biomedical data sets.
