Winter 2019 and/or Summer 2020 Venture Fellowship

Location: NYC
Hours: 20- 30 hrs/week
Timeframe: December 2019 - January 2020 OR June - August 2020

Who are we?
Urban Us investors in startups that fighting climate change by upgrading cities. Most founders we work with are focused on sectors such as water, food, construction, real estate, mobility, energy, or logistics. These startups usually sell directly to consumers or provide enterprise-based solutions but are sometimes working with or selling to local governments.

As a VC firm, Urban Us helps founders speed their connections to talent, customers, expertise and other investors. The goal is to increase our startup’s chances of success. We are looking for someone who wants to help us help startups improve life in cities.

Role Description

This is an opportunity for intellectually curious candidates who are interested in venture capital, working with startups and solving city problems. Fellows will have exposure to the day to day experience at a growing a mission-focused, top quartiles performing investment platform including VC, startup accelerator, URBAN-X and a venture debt fund. This paid in-person fellowship will be located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn or Tribeca, Manhattan and will run from December to January 2020 and/or June to August 2020. Candidate will ideally have venture investing experience, entrepreneurial experience or experience with cities.

Potential Opportunities and Experiences

-Help recruit, review and conduct diligence on urbantech investment opportunities
-Help onboard new companies for the accelerator and portfolio
-Support existing companies in the accelerator and portfolio
-Communicate and share deal flow with other early stage VCs
-Marketing analytics for our inbound marketing process
-Network analytics to understand how we can do a better job interacting with our growing network
-Specific projects or research related to written communications (workshops, playbooks, blog posts)
-Help develop a recruitment plan for investment opportunities
-Support our network and relationships with founders as well as startup customers, partners and investors

-Strong written and verbal abilities
-Demonstrated strong quantitative and analytical skills
-An understanding of city problems, ideally in at least one of the verticals we focus on (food, water, waste, energy, built environment, public health, transportation and govtech)
-Interested in early stage startups and venture capital
-Experience with technology startup founders
-Self motivated and a strong work ethic
-Prior experience with project management and client management
-Proficient with Google for Work suite of tools (Docs, Sheets, Forms, Gmail, etc)
-Knowledge of Hubspot
-Enjoys building relationships and networking
