Our mission: Uptrust is an innovative social enterprise working to reform money bail systems and dismantle the myth that low income defendants represent a risk of flight. Our text-message-based communication tool connects defendants to their public defender and relevant community services. Public defender offices reminding clients of court using Uptrust have seen their FTA rates drop by over 50%, eliminating the vast majority of bench warrants and subsequent jailing.

Currently, local governments spend more than $9 billion on unnecessary pretrial incarceration, and an additional $1billion issuing and enforcing FTAs. Uptrust provides a win-win to its government partners: safely lowering their jail
populations saves money and allows citizens to lead free and productive lives. Uptrust launched in California in 2016 and is now working with 15 public defender offices around the country reaching over 150,000 pretrial defendants. Uptrust is backed by several leading national foundations and has received press from media outlets such as TechCrunch, The New York Times, the ABA Journal, and US News & World Report.

The Opportunity: To further scale our efforts and increase our impact, we are bringing on an expert software leader as Tech Lead Manager . This critical role would work closely with Uptrust's CTO to develop and support new product
initiatives on our web, mobile, and back-end platforms. The Tech Lead Manager would play a leadership role in designing and implementing new product features used by public defender staff and criminal justice reform stakeholders at all levels (county, state and national). This is an opportunity to join a growing organization using modern technology for good; as a member of our team, you'll help us reach our goal of 1,000,000 defendants in 100 offices and 100,000 jail nights avoided by the end of 2019.

We are looking for someone who wants to have a measurable impact in criminal justice reform and believes in the power of technology to change unjust systems.

Responsibilities:
● Collaborate with the Uptrust CTO on product strategy and planning
● Improving and maintaining Uptrust's web and mobile platforms
● Leading the design and implementation of new product features
● Assist with recruiting to grow the product engineering team

What we offer: This is a full-time role with benefits and a generous and competitive salary based on experience. We offer a full benefits package. Candidate will either work out of Uptrust's office in downtown Northampton, MA, or San Francisco, CA.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate has the following attributes:
● Expert-level experience (5+ years) with key web technologies, including:
o HTML / CSS / JavaScript
o Node.js / npm
o AngularJS
o Firebase
● Experience managing projects and running a team
● Entrepreneurial and motivated self-starter with demonstrated ability to establish and meet goals and objectives
● Interest in criminal justice reform
