Universal Yums was founded five years ago in a basement apartment by two founders who hated their corporate jobs. What do some people do when they hate their jobs? Travel the world. What did we do? Take $4,000 out of our savings and launch a company that would allow you to travel the world through food.

We’ve succeeded in that mission. To date, we’ve visited 34 different countries, became an integral part of new family traditions, and tried over 7,000 unique snacks and candies.

Now, the company has identified and vetted some exciting new opportunities in the Food and Beverage space. We are now gearing up to build a larger team that will support the launches, run the current and new businesses, and delight millions of current and future customers.

This is a unique opportunity to be a part of an established business itching to do more for their consumers and make a bigger mark on the industry. You’ll play an important role in building out a larger team and work directly with the company’s founders – who have a strong desire to ensure you, and no one else at the company, hates their job like we once did.

About the Job
We’re looking for an organized, personable, self-starter to lead the recruiting process and serve as the primary HR resource for the company’s 30+ employees. You’ll be the first full-time, in-house hire for the role, and you’ll work directly with the company’s founders to develop a talent pipeline, talent development programs, and recruiting strategies that uniquely position Universal Yums as an amazing place to work.

Our company headquarters will be moving to the beautiful, tree-lined streets of Montclair, New Jersey in early 2020. You’ll work downtown on Bloomfield Ave, just steps from amazing restaurants, bars, and coffeeshops. No commute to NYC everyday, hurray!

Your first 6 Months
• Learn the company’s existing HR policies, recruitment process, and employee development programs.
• Work with the founders to build out a recruitment strategy for the hiring roadmap (the hiring roadmap for the next several hires has already been established).
• Execute on the hiring roadmap, identifying areas for improvement in the recruiting process.
• Improve our on-boarding process to ensure every employee’s first 90 days at the company are a success.
• Manage employee payroll and other employee benefits such as retirement plans and healthcare.
• Complete a holistic deep of the company’s culture and values. Lead internal initiatives that clarify and instill the company’s core values into every aspect of what we do.

Your first 12 Months
• Work with company leadership to develop the hiring roadmap and organizational structure for the next two years.
• Develop “always-on” recruitment strategies focused on the company’s overall business and organizational goals.
• Continually develop our HR processes and company benefits, providing analysis to leadership on how these strategies will benefit the company’s overall business objectives.
• Build out training programs and processes for people development.
• Be the company expert on trends and future opportunities in the human resources and people development space.

• Having said that, we do look for a few qualities from the start:
- 3-8 years of professional experience in Human Resources (At least 1 year of recruiting experience required).
- Exceptional verbal and written communication.
- Contagious enthusiasm for the company, mission, product, and people.
- Strong technical skills in MS office and/or G Suite.
- Exceptional effort applied to everything you do.
- Ownership of your work, and the innate desire to improve whatever you touch.
