Senior DevOps Engineer

Tradesy is looking for a talented DevOps Engineer who can work with other engineers, architects, designers and product owners to develop reliable, performant, secure and scalable systems. This role requires both Software and Systems Engineering expertise. You are a total geek about Linux and networking, and also have a passion for coding and solving problems with automation. This position requires working in a collaborative manner while always being willing to help others.
The ideal candidate enjoys being heavily involved in the planning and design of our systems, infrastructure and applications as we migrate and re-platform our systems from AWS to GCP. Our system is currently a large monolith that is being broken down into services and separate applications as we migrate to GCP using Docker and Kubernetes.
This role reports to the Director of Technology Operations.
Support our current VM-based infrastructure in AWS and our upcoming dockerized environment in GCP.
Plan, design and implement changes to our current and future infrastructure.
Educate and provide technical guidance to the engineering team about the work done by the DevOps team.
Be involved in the continuous improvement of our monitoring and alerting systems.
Manage, configure, research and support existing and upcoming CI/CD tools across our different environments.
Be part of our On-Call team that handles production issues.
Work on other tasks related but not limited to security, performance, testing and best practices.
Excellent communication and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent understanding of VPC, networking, load balancers, autoscaling, CDN, containers, monitoring and alerting tools.
Vast experience in at least one of the major cloud providers (AWS, GCP or Azure).
Solid scripting experience and knowledge of one programming language. You don't need to be a software developer but some experience with a programming language is ideal. We primarily use Python, Shell scripts and PHP.
Been involved in building and maintaining systems with complex dependencies and infrastructure.
Experience dealing with systems migrations, version upgrades and implementing new tooling to existing infrastructure.
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
Experience with CI/CD automation and DevOps configuration management tools.
Good understanding of Linux system internals, resource limits, troubleshooting and scalability.
