The Covid-19 epidemic poses countless challenges to societies. Lockdowns and physical distancing affect peoples’ mental and physical health. In many African countries, artists have a great impact on communities - they inspire and mobilize masses and offer orientation. Especially in times of crisis, artists and people working in the creative and cultural industries can act as multipliers.
African musicians, visual and performing artists also appear as digital influencers. Due to their high reach, they provide access to cultural education to millions of people through streaming and social media platforms. They are not only part of social and cultural movements and represent needs of a society, but they also have the power to exert political influence across national borders.
However, artists are restricted in their work by Covid-19. As they are not able to perform neither at home nor abroad, they lose their main sources of income. This will also have a significant impact on the - economically relevant - creative industries as a whole. A digital single point of contact for accessible cultural education is missing.
taswira academy provides digital cultural and economic education and networking. As further education and training are rarely available and accessible to many African artists and people interested in cultural education, our app not only hosts webinars by artists, agencies, companies and foundations but also webinars for artists.
“Educate an artist and you educate generations“ - taswira envisions the accessibility and visibility of African and diasporic artistic creations on a global scale and wants to contribute to a sustainable future by strengthening African societies and a modern image of Africa.
taswira receives mentorship & coaching from enpact startup mentoring programme 2019/20.
