Sweatcoin is a new breed of step counter and activity tracker app that pays you digital currency

Sweatcoin's mission is to make the world more active The app incentivises users to walk by rewarding their steps with the virtual currency, Sweatcoin. Users can then spend their Sweatcoins in the in-app marketplace on charitable donations or products from over 400 companies in the UK, US, EU, Canada and Australia. Since December 2016 Sweatcoin has acquired 40 million downloads 21.1 million in the US. To date has successfully raised almost £5m in venture capital funding. The most recent £4.2m round closed in December 2017, led by Goodwater Capital (a consumer technology-focused Silicon Valley VC firm). Greylock Partners, Rubylight, Seedcamp, Justin Kan (founder of Twitch and Justin.tv) and Rain Lohmus (founder of LHV Bank), also participated in the round. The British Journal of Sports Medicine found that Sweatcoin users demonstrate a sustained +20% uplift in physical activity even after 6 months from install. The uplift is even more pronounced for less physically active or overweight users.
