Suffer Better Intern

Who is Suffer Better?
Suffer Better is a Colorado-based 501c3 public charity, founded in 2014 by 2 local ultraunners to build a community of athletes who recognize the importance of giving their all in their athletic endeavors and life, and of giving back to their communities. Our mission is simply to

“Tap the power, focus, dedication, and commitment of the endurance athlete community to preserve and protect our natural environment, work with and support local nonprofits, and improve local communities.”

We offer trail running races, regular presentations, and provide grants to encourage members of the athlete community to respect and protect our wild places, support local communities and help those in need.

We are a small team and are in need of an intern willing and able to wear multiple hats to help us accomplish our goals.

We are looking for a special and motivated individual with a varied skill set willing to work 10-15 hours a week – some at our office and some remotely – to help us move the needle.

Responsibilities include:

1) Social Media: Expanding our social media presence with regular inspirational posts on both FB and IG, including live stories as well as relevant and appropriate reposts and even some occasional ads.
2) Content Development: Contributing ideas and content to our monthly newsletter, including the potential development of a regular “column.”
3) Written Content: Writing regular content for our Suffer Better blog.
4) Order Fulfillment: Assisting with the fulfillment of the orders received for Suffer Better apparel – i.e. packing and shipping.
5) Ideation/Planning: Helping in the ideation and planning of future products for sale on our website and the creation and implementation of new events to add to our menu.
6) Event Planning and Implementation: Helping with the numerous and varied details of our two annual trail running races, including: Volunteer recruitment; course planning and marking; sponsor recruitment and activation; marketing and promotion, race registration, etc.
7) Sponsorships: Working with our current sponsors to ensure their goals are met and helping us recruit new sponsors to support our work.

1) Athlete/Outdoorist: A committed outdoor lover and believer in the importance of wild places, an unsullied natural environment, environmental protection, and community engagement. Being an endurance athlete is a major bonus – cyclist, runner, hiker, triathlete or climber, or even all of them….
2) Writer/thinker: Capable of producing clear and compelling written content for sharing via a variety of media channels.
3) Interpersonal skills: Comfortable speaking and interacting with groups and individuals in a variety of settings, both formal and less so.
4) Independent worker: Able to manage a varied workload and focus on getting specific tasks completed while maintaining a clear view of the big picture.
5) Volunteer: Demonstrable willingness to donate time and energy to projects and people.
