A Day in the Life

You will help change the landscape of the rocket launch industry, be an integral and unique part of a close-knit team of individuals operating in a high energy environment, changing the way humanity puts things into space. As the Head of Construction at SpinLaunch, you will lead the charge in coordinating the efforts of the various projects and teams needed to successfully bring our suborbital test site into operation. You will spend time in both our Los Angeles based Headquarters and our state-of-the-art suborbital test site at Spaceport America, New Mexico. We are currently constructing the world’s only kinetic space launch system and are seeking to hire a key player to drive organization, planning, and tracking through assembly and into operation of the system.

Your Mission:

  • Be the primary program manager for a large scale industrial construction project
  • Lead project & construction managers and interface with engineers, executives, contracts, and other relevant stake holders to increase cohesiveness and team effectiveness
  • Build a high level of technical system & sub-system knowledge
  • Provide creative vision for site design and improvements
  • Manage project schedules and develop strategies to effectively utilize resources
  • Source and negotiate construction contracts with vendors
  • Scrutinize and provide final approval for major contracts
  • Keep contractors, project & construction managers accountable to quality, schedule, and safety requirements
  • Build cost estimations and monitor expenditures
  • Communicate project status and strategies to company executives and management
  • Identify gaps in labor, equipment, site planning
  • Grow and contract team resources strategically
  • Maintain organizational charts and document responsibilities of project & construction managers

Location:

This position will be based outside of Las Cruces and will be overseeing construction at our build site in New Mexico with occasional travel to Long Beach, CA.

You Have:

  • 8+ years professional experience running large scope construction projects
  • The startup mentality: able to move quickly with incomplete information, while maintaining flexibility and agility
  • Hands on mechanical experience, strong mechanical aptitude & intuition
  • Significant contract negotiation experience
  • Organized and methodical approach to project management
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Excellent data gathering skills to aid in decision making
  • Strong ability to resolve conflicts and mentor managers
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suites programs proficiency, including strong MS Project (or equivalent) and MS Excel competency

Strongly Desirable:

  • Master of Business Administration or equivalent
