About Spin

Spin operates electric scooters in cities and campuses nationwide, bringing sustainable last-mile mobility solutions to diverse communities. Recognized for its consistent cooperation and collaboration with cities, Spin partners closely with transportation planners, elected officials, community groups, and university administrators to bring stationless mobility options to streets in a responsible and carefully orchestrated manner.

Based in San Francisco, Spin is a diverse team of engineers, designers, urban planners, policymakers, lawyers and operators with experience from Y Combinator, Lyft, Uber, local and federal government, and the transportation advocacy world. Spin was known for launching the first stationless mobility program in Seattle, and has since expanded to become the exclusive electric scooter partner in mid-sized cities like Coral Gables, Florida and Lexington, Kentucky, and one of a few permitted scooter operators in large cities like Denver, Detroit, and Washington, D.C. The team embeds in cities and neighborhoods to understand their specific transportation needs, and hires locally from the community.

Spin is expanding quickly and looking for top-tier talent to help us bring affordable and accessible transportation options to cities and define what future safe streets will look like.

About the Role:

We’re looking for a motivated, creative, and committed program manager to join our Policy Initiatives group. Our program managers are responsible for designing and delivering our major policy initiatives, across a variety of mobility and urbanist portfolios. Examples of typical programs might include sustainability efforts that lead the industry; equity projects that find new ways to bring vulnerable communities onto our platform; and partnerships with cities to make our riders safer through better infrastructure.

We’re a small team, so program managers can expect to work across a variety of domains, juggle multiple projects, and work at all levels from strategic thinking to practical implementation.

The ideal candidate has a consulting background, especially in urban planning, engineering, or mobility; balances quantitative and qualitative skill-sets, but is strongly design-driven and follows human-centered practices; has a strong grasp of some of the key areas of practical challenge for micromobility operators, such as safety, sustainability, and equity; is happy managing -- and has a track record of delivering -- complex projects with lots of moving parts; and has experience working with diverse partners including governments.

Responsibilities:
* Design, develop, and implement programs across the Policy Initiatives portfolio.
* Support fellow Policy Initiatives program managers and leadership in formulating strategy: identify trends, contribute creative ideas, and bring opportunities to the wider team.
* Work independently and cross-functionally, liaising with product, engineering, partnerships, legal, and other teams to get things done.
* Procure and manage relationships with outside contractors and consultants.
* Engage effectively and efficiently with city and government staff.
* Work lean and fast, focusing on prototyping and learning over polishing the perfect program.
* Bring an independent, creative, and human-centered angle to the team’s work: follow your instincts and do the right thing for our riders and partners, rather than always wait for permission or guidance.
* Represent Spin and the Public Policy team at a variety of public events such as panels and conferences.

Qualifications:
* BS or BA degree or equivalent experience.
* 7-10 years working in strategy, consulting, investment banking, venture capital, or equivalent fields and experience that balance analytical and design thinking in the context of a demanding and fast-paced environment.
* Experience building and owning programs or projects involving large budgets, multiple team members and organizations, and delivering on tight time frames.

Nice-to-Have:
* MS in urban planning or transportation, or an MBA.
* 5 or more years consulting experience in urban/mobility planning or civil engineering, especially for projects in “new mobility” or as part of innovation or growth teams.
* Affinity for and experience in program and service design thinking.
* Particular domain experience in transportation equity, sustainability, safety, or data.
* Experience in government, public policy, or at least experience regularly and cooperatively working with governments and other public-sector stakeholders.
