LEAD PRODUCTION TEST ENGINEER (STARLINK)

SpaceX is developing a low latency, broadband internet system to meet the needs of consumers across the globe. Enabled by a constellation of low Earth orbit satellites, Starlink will provide fast, reliable internet to populations with little or no connectivity, including those in rural communities and places where existing services are too expensive or unreliable. We are looking for a talented, creative, and driven Lead Production Test Engineer to spearhead the development of millions of consumer-facing devices that will sit in our customers’ homes.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and specialists responsible for factory screening and characterization of high volume, innovative telecom products. Responsible for delivering outcomes measured by production rate/takt time, yield, total lifecycle cost, and operator safety. Primary responsibilities include recruiting, mentoring, interfacing with client and support groups, hardware and software design, vendor onboarding and maintenance, and project management.

  • Manage and procure resources in order to meet delivery milestones and maintain an exceptional interdisciplinary team
  • Load balance tasks and responsibilities within the team to ensure optimal overall test coverage
  • Design and build hardware and software solutions using a combination of custom and COTS parts
  • Analyze results and provide feedback to design, supply chain, manufacturing, and support teams to continually improve the test outcomes and the final product

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related technical discipline
  • 2+ years experience implementing test or automation in a related technical field
  • 2+ years technical leadership experience (either managing direct reports or as a program/project lead)

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar field.
  • 5+ years experience implementing test or automation for factory production, high-volume electronics, or RF equipment
  • Design or test experience in one or more of the following fields: software development, factory automation, RF, or electronics
  • Experience with data trending tools like Grafana, Minitab, R, or JMP
  • Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, and other tools for improving manufacturing yields and reducing takt time
  • Familiarity with RF test equipment and protocols including WiFi, Ku, Bluetooth, and GPS
  • Excellent leadership, communication, mentoring, and teamwork skills
  • Experience developing and implementing processes in a fast-paced parallel product development environment
  • Extensive knowledge of instrumentation and data acquisition tools, including load cells, actuator controls, and machine vision
  • Extensive knowledge with a range of interfaces including GPIB, USB, VISA, TCP/IP, VLAN, analog

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to travel domestically or internationally as needed (up to 10% travel)
  • Must be available to work extended hours and weekends as needed
