Songclip is looking for a highly motivated, experienced executive to lead our global music industry initiatives. This role manages, oversees and is accountable for business-critical relationships with major and indie labels, publishers, PROs and global societies. As the Director, Music Licensing & Partnerships, you will bring a deep understanding of business strategy, licensing, negotiating, and finance and analytics to help shape Songclip’s industry strategy and drive growth for the business.

As a key member of the Songclip leadership team, you will manage a set of business functions related to our industry efforts, including relationship management, data and pricing analysis, business development, and content licensing, to accelerate the overall growth of our partnerships with the music industry. Your role will include an exciting combination of strategy, licensing, operations, negotiation, analysis, and project management. Your work will help create and lead the new marketplace of social music.

What you’ll do

  • Own day-to-day management and global expansion of strategic partnerships with music publishers, labels, PROs and societies
  • Deliver outstanding client service to our music industry partners and on behalf of our API partners
  • Manage internal relationships and collaborate across the business on music rights, payment, reporting, systems enhancements and programming performance
  • Oversee implementation of and contribute to the negotiation of music industry license deals
  • Collaborate with Music Programming and Marketing divisions to secure necessary rights for specific promotions
  • Manage contract administration and tracking process to ensure the business operates in full compliance with license terms
  • Proactively provide the functional leads with the insights and knowledge needed to drive decisions and define effective strategies for our licensing infrastructure, asset management, and music publishing rights management tools
  • Consistently develop and lead strategies to enhance the licensing process whether from a systems perspective or industry-facing initiatives
  • Prepare and present data-centric reports to internal teams and external clients
  • Lead and/or add to internal presentations on music licensing requirements for Sales, Sales Support, Client Management and the Sr. Executive team
  • Become deeply familiar with a range of products and business processes at Songclip in order to be able to advise labels, field functionality and capability questions, and resolve issues
  • Rely on your strong relationships within your network and communication skills to appropriately position Songclip’s capabilities and value in a way that drives excitement and engagement with our tools and services
  • Regularly attend and participate in formal and informal external meetings to deepen label relationships as a trusted and valued partner
  • Maintain solid understanding of the evolving music industry to inform dialogue with partners
  • Lead global business reviews; identify and execute opportunities to drive growth for both our platform and our partners’ core business
  • Collaborate closely and manage strong relationships with cross-functional internal teams including: Legal, Licensing, Sales, Product, and Sr. Leadership to deliver cohesive outstanding service to labels and to advance Songclip’s mission
  • Report to Co-Founders


  • Understanding of key digital music issues and trends in rights management, including collective rights organizations and publisher / label relationships
  • A fluency with, or willingness to learn, technological concepts, financial models, and product features
  • Experience supervising a team and third-party vendors with an emphasis on developing and overseeing best practices and competitive policies and procedures
  • Interface regularly with senior management on tactical and strategic priorities with the necessary levels of confidentiality
  • Excellent financial, analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and solution-oriented with an ability to prioritize workload, independently and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills

Who you are

  • You have at least 10 years of experience in the music or entertainment business - preferably in product management, corporate strategy and/or business development roles
  • You understand both licensing and SaaS businesses dynamics
  • MBA or Master’s degree in a management or legal field is a nice-to-have
  • You have deep experience and a great reputation in the industry for delivering highly accountable and efficient client services, project management, pricing analysis and partner relationship management
  • You demonstrate consistent ability to quickly master complex topics, think creatively, proactively problem solve, and drive real results
  • You feel very comfortable analyzing and applying data to craft strategies and make decisions
  • You have excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills (which includes mastery of PowerPoint/Keynote, and Excel)
