We focus on old industries where there is huge room for automation. Today, Shipamax serves some of the largest players in the bulk shipping industry and is processing 20 million emails & attachments annually. We're currently expanding into our second vertical - the Freight Forwarding market - where we're seeing customers jump at the prospect of applying our technology to automate data entry.

As a Engineer you will focus on extracting data & meaning from documents. Day to day you'll be:
- Bringing algorithms and models research into practice.
- Owning ML models end-to-end, from setting standards for labelling data sets to deploying in production.
- Responsible for the quality and ongoing evaluation of the ML models.
- Working closely with the application teams to successfully integrate models into our product.
- Keeping on top of the latest AI/ML research for team discussions & application in your work.

This role will help us improve our existing product as well as help us expand into our second vertical. You’ll be working in the data science team alongside PhDs and NLP/computer vision experts.

Today’s product is built using proprietary data that no one else has access to. You'll be working on extracting information from trade documents, such as bills of lading.

The processing is not only very challenging due to the large variety of documents, but it also needs be done under time limitations.

- Work alongside a team of three data scientists to push the boundaries of structuring data from documents and e-mails
- Maintain and improve text extraction and understanding
- Maintain and improve layout recognition
- Maintain and improve OCR
- Managing and improve data sets
- Performance evaluation

About you
- Strong programming skills in one of the following programming languages including but not limited to: Python, C++, Java or Go
- BSc./MSc. in computer science, statistics, mathematics or a related field or significant relevant job experience
- Analytical skills
- Attention to detail
- Experience in understanding and building statistical or machine learning models
- Focus on deliverables
- Leadership qualities
- Ability to perform applied research projects and bring it to production

- Experience in computer vision or natural language processing
- Experience working on real-world data sets
- Experience with Docker/Kubernetes/AWS Lambda
- Experience with AWS
- Experience with professional software development best practices
- PhD

Experience in logistics not necessary :)
