Director, Engineering

Seismic is seeking an experienced Engineering leader to head a distributed team of talented Software Engineers and Engineering Managers. The engineering group this position leads is responsible for Seismic Core Platform Services product technical roadmap definition and feature delivery. Reporting the VP of Platform Services Engineering, you will work closely with VPs and Directors of Product, Engineering, UI/UX Design, DevOps, SRE, and Customer Support to ensure overall software delivery quality. You will be responsible for coming up with a technical roadmap for your groups in conjunction with your product management counterparts in order to provide a best in class SaaS platform on which internal and external engineering teams can build compelling customer facing experiences. You will provide technical leadership and guidance, mentorship for team members, and will facilitate efficient engineering execution while solving for scale, resilience, and reliability. You will coach and grow technical leaders and help them be successful in their current roles and prepare them take the next steps in their professional development. As a senior technical leader, you will provide thought leadership and drive initiatives outside your immediate scope of responsibility.

What you'll do:

Lead, inspire, and influence to ensure the success of the team.
Partner with the recruiting team to attract and retain high-quality and diverse talent.
Establish a great rapport with other development teams, Senior Technical Leaders, Product Managers, Customer Success and Customer Support to maintain high levels of visibility, efficiency, and collaboration.
Ensure teams have appropriate technical direction, leadership, and balance between short-term impact and long-term architectural vision.
Ensure that the group remains execution focused and effective in a fast paced and sometimes ambiguous environment.
Manage multiple software engineering teams led by technical leaders and managers.
Own production quality, and effective and timely communication regarding customer reported issues by collaborating with other key stake holders in QA/QE, Product Management, DevOps & SRE, Customer Success, Customer Support.

What you will bring to the team:

10+ years managing software engineering teams in consumer Web or SaaS products. Strong familiarity with SaaS software development best practices and development cycle.
Experience leading a geographically distributed software engineering organization comprised of multiple teams.
Strong technical background that allows you to understand, advocate for and support your engineers and engineering leaders. Familiarity with cloud technologis: Docker, AWS/GCP/Azure, experience with coding in Java, C#, JS, and/or Python preferred.
Experience building strong partnerships with other job functions, like the product, marketing, and UX, to keep teams collaborating smoothly and working together to improve the product.
Ability and desire to understand the architecture and design of complicated SaaS systems and to get hands-on with data and analysis as necessary.
Experience with service-oriented and event-driven system architectures, building high-performance distributed systems in the cloud.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technology field required; Master's degree preferred.
Ability to handle a heavy workload with multiple projects and frequent interruptions.
Ability to work in a changing, dynamic environment.
