The role: Account Executive

Safi builds software to drive smart, clean growth across emerging markets. We've seen incredible success in our initial market - Kenya - and just raised a Seed round to expand within Kenya and in our next market (still TBD - Mexico, Indonesia, Nigeria, and South Africa are all candidates!). We're hiring for our first salesperson - if you're experienced with enterprise software and looking for a mission-driven adventure, let us know!

Delivering on these promises to all of our customers - from when they sign up for a trial through their daily experience, is what will drive a successful Account Executive.

The Account Executive’s success will be measured by the following:
Customer satisfaction (driven by value derived from the system and our exceptional customer experience)
Building customer advocates (measured by customer referrals)
Total revenue

Success in this role will require a deep understanding of Safi’s customers - the teams responsible for owning, managing and operating factories - strong, ongoing relationships; robust customer communication; proactive Safi-based solutions to customer problems; and ongoing partnerships to achieve maximum value. This role is expected to start in July 2019 and can provide the opportunity for significant growth within the company for the right candidate, both in Kenya and beyond.

What you do
* Drive sales, marketing and customer acquisition strategies based on customer feedback and experience; you are ultimately responsible for launching effective trials, closing deals and ongoing account management that ensures our customers can achieve clean, smart growth -- all while ensuring the highest satisfaction ratings possible;
* Build + maintain exceptional relationships with industrial customers - ensure ongoing outreach engagement and offer customers best practices to use the system and strategic advice on how to most effectively drive results with Safi;
* Work as part of our Customer Team that works collaboratively to build exceptional relationships with our industrial customers, from small to large factories and from CEOs to engineers or maintenance professionals, to maximize energy savings, drive productivity and reduce maintenance costs.
* Monitor customer’s site usage, analyze data on energy consumption and production to understand customer’s priorities, and make recommendations based on insights
* Provide trial and existing customers frequent progress reports and results of system use through a variety of means: written format, oral presentation, visually etc.;
* Train customers to use products effectively in order to maximize value out of the Safi system;
* Communicate and connect with customers regularly (both directly and as a broader team) to achieve the highest customer satisfaction and drive customer retention;
* Resolve customer challenges in a timely manner;
* Establish best practices in Sales + Account Management and track performance metrics.

* Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to work with all team members working at factories (e.g. owners, factory managers, engineers, maintenance + data entry staff)
* Experience with industrial operations, machinery, and/or electrical systems including oversight + management functions
* Gets the big picture, relentlessly follows up on details.
* Team oriented, while being proactive and self-directed - needs to be able to craft and drive projects that include multiple areas of the organization. Being a great teammate who can manage in a changing environment with a focus on customer success is essential to success in this role.
* Evidence of operating swiftly amidst ambiguity, displaying capacity to adapt to the changing requirements of a fast-growing company. Being able to prioritize, take initiative, communicate clearly, and manage many projects and workstreams is critical.
* Willingness to travel - you should expect to spend significant time with customers, and translate company vision and customer needs into product and systems.
* This role will include extensive travel within Nairobi’s Industrial Area and also out to factories in other areas of Kenya (Eldoret, Kisumu, Mombasa, etc.)
* Strong computer skills and eagerness to engage with software systems (e.g Google Drive, Slack, Trello).
* Experience with - and unwavering commitment to - exceptional customer service
* 2-4 years of demonstrated experience in account management and/or supporting technical teams related to industrial operations, machinery, and/or electrical systems
* Love problem solving and apply a holistic approach to it - combine customer empathy + data to drive behavior change
* Eager to bring radical candor to work and enthusiastic about organizational culture: excited to challenge yourself and your teammates, and both give and receive feedback.

Nice to have
* Familiarity with design thinking tools
* Swahili language skills
* Startup experience
