Position Overview:

Back-End Lead Engineer at SafeRide’s offices in Culver City, California will report to our Director of Engineering, and will be responsible for scaling our back-end, APIs, and infrastructure for our cutting-edge content management systems and real-time applications. More specifically, the responsibilities of Back-End Lead Engineer will include:

• Designing and creating services and system architecture for assigned projects, and contributing and providing feedback to other team members;
• Improving our code quality through writing unit tests, automation and performing code reviews;
• Participating in brainstorming sessions and contributing ideas to our technology, algorithms and products;
• Working with the product and design teams to understand end-user requirements, formulating use cases, and then translating that into a pragmatic and effective technical solutions;
• Owning back-end optimizations, enhancements and new features across all of our properties;
• Applying caching techniques like Redis/Elasticsearch/Mongo to help scale the applications; and
• Learning quickly and adapting to changing priorities in a dynamic landscape.

Minimum requirements:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a closely-related IT field (foreign equivalent accepted), plus
• 8 years of software development experience;


• 5 years of experience working with scripting languages, specifically PHP with an additional preference of Python or Ruby;
• 5 years of experience with both SQL and NoSQL Databases;
• Expert level understanding of OOP (Object Oriented Programming) and MVC (Minimal Viable Concept) design principles;
• Strong understanding of content management systems and real time applications;
• Familiarity with modern Javascript Frameworks like Node and/or React;
• Proficiency with version control applications (i.e., Git, Gitflow and/or branching);
• Proficiency with queuing systems such as RabbitMq, SNS or Kafka;
• Proficiency with Docker Containers and AWS; and
• Understanding of continuous integration tools such as Github, Jenkins or Travis CI.
