Modeling the world’s richest human endeavors, from financial markets to political systems, turns on understanding human motivation and attention. To help decision makers tackle this complexity, Predata is distilling the world’s web traffic into concise indicators of trends, viewpoints, and business processes.

As a generalist Machine Learning Research Engineer on the team, you’ll help build the algorithmic foundations of Predata’s global intelligence platform, and have the chance to interact closely with a diverse, interdisciplinary team to deliver value across a wide range of industries.

What you’ll do

  • Power a platform currently utilized by Fortune 500 companies, top-tier hedge funds, and government agencies
  • Build cutting-edge models of online activity, fusing data from millions of “sensors” — web pages across the internet — into a complete picture of global attention
  • Codify our understanding of website content to model the digital attention environment before and after major events
  • Help shape the company’s long-term ML strategy
  • Leverage modern techniques to process and fuse text, time series, and graph structured data to categorize and understand the modern internet

Your projects will include

  • Modeling how mentions of entities in the news affect the flow of global web traffic
  • Untangling the causal reasons behind anomalies in attention to obscure subjects
  • Constructing a knowledge graph leveraging industry-standard taxonomies, volunteer efforts such as Wikidata, and Predata's repository of content generated by global intelligence analysts
  • Leveraging knowledge graph embeddings to scale the ability of teams of analysts to construct and monitor traffic to tailored collections of web content

What you bring

  • 3+ years of ML research and/or engineering experience in a leading academic or industry context
  • Strong deep learning background and fluency with state-of-the-art techniques in NLP, analysis on graphs, and time series
  • An extensive track record of shipping cutting-edge and impactful ML products
  • Excellent grasp of the mathematical foundations of machine learning theory and recent advances in the field
  • Practical experience with modern ML frameworks: you are able to rapidly prototype ideas from the latest research and apply them to multi-terabyte datasets
  • Comfortable doing anything and everything in modern Python and processing data in Unix-like systems
  • A focus on clear and effective communication

Things you might be excited about

  • Time series
  • Quantitative finance
  • Geopolitics and world events
  • Bringing a human-centered focus to your work
  • Working closely with customers
