Ping builds automation tools for professional services. We’re starting by automating timekeeping for the world’s largest enterprises and then using that data to transform the way these industries price, operate and work. Professionals won’t just use our system to manage their time but to create it.

And we need your help.

We believe that time is the most valuable thing we can spend. We also believe that professionals are wasting a staggering amount of time at work because they have no idea where they are spending it. Previously, professionals had to manually record every six-minutes of their day into antiquated timekeeping software. We are automating this workflow so professionals can concentrate on creating value, not being administrators.

And that’s just the beginning. We will then leverage the data we collect to optimize the way work is priced and performed across these trillion-dollar industries. If done correctly, we’ll allow professionals to output in 4 hours what now takes them 10. This gives you an opportunity to impact the world at scale - give people back time they’d otherwise lose forever and empower them to spend it with intention.

As our Director of QE, you will help lead a high-growth, enterprise SaaS company. Over the last three-plus years, our time and billing system has created a massive pull from the enterprise legal market (a $2B+ ARR opportunity). We will then replicate this pull from the largest market segment in the US (the $3.2TN professional services industry). We have already garnered interest from some of the largest accounting and consulting firms in the world.

We are now looking for the right technical leader to manage and grow the quality engineering team capable of satisfying this demand. We are presenting a unique opportunity to build a product for a defined, proven, and mature market, while also giving you complete autonomy to shape our quality engineering & testing philosophy, processes, and culture to drive world-class product building.

We are looking for a Director of QE capable of up-leveling our engineering organization in terms of quality, testing, and automation. You will come in and be given full ownership of quality engineering and QA at Ping. Our VP of Engineering will work with you to build out your own team, from the ground up, to your specifications. You will have control in structuring and running your team the way you want. You will then recruit and hire a team that will grow significantly over the next 12 months.

You will be accountable for successful quality-driven engineering that upholds the following values:

Our Guardians of Quality
We will opt to miss deadlines over shipping with severe defects
When we ship, we will strive for zero severe defects
If severe defects are found, we will communicate root cause and strategy to prevent a repeat
Customer safety is a top priority for us and as such, we need to make ensuring safety a subconscious part of everyday development
Your main spheres of responsibility will include:

Cultivating a culture of quality and test-driven engineering
Building and maintaining test automation infrastructure and tooling
Writing and maintaining various forms of tests ranging from unit tests to automated end-to-end tests
Manage and sign off on our release testing process to effectuate quick release cycles with maximum stability
Organize, structure, and manage the quality engineering team
Identify, recruit, retain, and close top technical talent

We are looking for someone with extensive quality engineering and management experience who has:

- Been a quality engineer for 6+ years before going into management
- Windows development (.NET, C#) experience
- Windows enterprise architecture (e.g. AD, Exchange) knowledge and an understanding of how to test apps deployed in these environments
- Advanced testing knowledge of a native Windows desktop app (e.g. WPF)
- Been an embedded QE in development teams, working closely with other developers on engineering work. e.g. pairing on bug fixes and writing automated tests
- Proven ability to lead high-performing quality engineering teams in a management capacity
- Experience leading a team of engineers and managers, both local and distributed
- An agile background and is experienced in TDD
- Knowledge on software design patterns geared towards writing code that is easily testable
- Helped refactor legacy code to be more testable
- Built test automation frameworks, pipelines, and tools from the ground up using AWS or another cloud platform
- Developed and maintained product test plans, testing strategies/processes, and scheduling of product testing
- Established metrics for product and code quality and built tooling around them. e.g. dashboards to monitor the month over month bug count
- Experience performing detailed exploratory testing
- Proven ability to recruit top technical talent
- Ability to uphold code quality standards, demonstrated through passion about software craftsmanship
- First hand experience in building and scaling client-side software for large enterprise clients (up to 250K+ user base at some clients)

Not required but nice to haves would be:
- Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or other STEM area
- Familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, MongoDB
- Familiarity with Ranorex for test automation
- Advanced Windows scripting automation experience (e.g. PowerShell)
- Microsoft MVP Awards, specifically those related to quality and test automation with Microsoft products and tools
- But more so than anything, we're looking for people with passion, grit, and integrity. You're encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn't exactly match the job description. Your skills and passion will stand out—and set you apart—especially if your career has taken some extraordinary twists and turns.

You will report directly to the VPE and be a member of the senior leadership team. You’ll work very closely with our VP of Product and Head of Deployment, and be instrumental in driving and impacting the overall strategic direction of the product.
