Summary/Objective:
PHION is seeking a full-time opto-mechanical engineer (OME), who will be responsible for current and new product design, analysis, integration and testing of optical and mechanical systems for far-field wireless charging applications. The candidate must be a proven self-starter with a “get it done” attitude, have effective communication skills, and have an overall aptitude and willingness to be able to work in the sometimes chaotic and rapidly changing environment of a tech start-up.

Essential Functions:
Develop new or improve existing opto-mechanical sub-systems for the PHION product set that supports overall product specifications, manufacturing goals and meets regulatory requirements. This includes developing 3D models, drafting specifications and technical drawings, design and production documentation, supporting production, and contributing to design for manufacturing, safety and quality reviews. In addition, the OME will Interact regularly with other engineering teams to ensure product design proposals take into account constraints from manufacture methods, industrial design, mechanical and optical tolerances, materials and costs. The OME will be part of a small team of engineering specialists and will be integral to overall design development and review of the PHION product set. Required skills include:

- B.S. degree in opto-mechanical or mechanical engineering, applied physics or closely related field with specialization or background in Optics or Opto-mechanical system

- 5 or more years’ experience in precision mechanical and opto-mechanical systems, laser systems, and free space optical communication systems, which may include laboratory work under graduate studies

- Proficient user of 3D CAD and optical modeling/simulation tools such as ZEMAX, CODEV, FRED, ASAP

- Experience working with vendors/suppliers to design and build optical subsystems

- Experience with optical and electrical test equipment, handling/building sensitive optomechanical systems, creating or using automation software

- Manage product, equipment and tooling BOMs

- Demonstrated ability to work independently, think on the fly and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team

- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and offsite as required. Some travel may be required.
