  • Black women are severely underrepresented in tech. And it’s particularly rare to come across a Black woman tech founder.
  • In 2016, after 14 years of working in tech, Stephanie Lampkin decided to create her own version of a good ol’ (white) boys club.
  • The “exclusive girls group” Lampkin founded, called Visible Figures, would be a way for Black women to create and benefit from the same sort of network.
  • In December 2016, Lampkin started inviting Black woman founders of tech and tech-enabled startups to a private Listserv. They shared tips for securing funding, hiring, and accessing events and organizations typically dominated by non-Black tech entrepreneurs; and they leveraged their experience and relationships to help each other.
