This Summer NuVu Studio is offering a comprehensive Residential Program for out-of-area and out-of-country students, ages 14-18, located near our studio in Cambridge, MA. We are seeking applicants to two Summer 2019 Residential Advisor positions.

NuVu's Summer 2019 Residential Advisors are responsible for enhancing each NuVu Resident Student's experience in the Summer Residential Program by providing information, direction, guidance, friendship, and support. There are informal day-to-day contacts with Student Residents as well as formal meetings, activities, and programs that the Resident Assistant will be in charge of coordinating and managing.

The Residential Advisor is responsible to the NuVu Operations Director, who will provide overarching responsibilities and guidance as far as program and activity development, administrative responsibilities, and communication protocols.

NuVu's Residential Advisors take responsibility and ownership of the following:

Community Development & Event and Activity Planning:
•Facilitate development of community by creating opportunities for residents to interact; conduct hall meetings; initiate discussions between roommates.
•Plan, organize and implement events and activities such as tours of the MIT and Harvard campuses, tours of emerging startup companies in the area, lectures with thought-leaders and makers leading significant changes in diverse fields, excursions to many of the historic sites in Boston, tour of the MIT Museum, movie nights, hikes along the Boston waterfront, and dinner excursions
•Mediate conflicts that may occur between roommates and among residents.
•Address individual student needs and concerns.

Administrative Responsibilities and Communication:
•Assume responsibility for identifying, reporting and correcting safety and security concerns; educate residents about safety and security measures.

Training, Meetings, and Duty Responsibilities:
•Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and individual meetings with NuVu Operations Director

Compensation:
•Room rent from July 7 to 20, 2019 and/or July 21 to August 3, 2019.
•Stipend for 2 weeks

NuVu Students in the Residential Program will be participating in NuVu’s Day’s Program from 9am-3pm, Monday through Friday. During this time, NuVu’s Day Program Staff will be primarily organizing studio activities for the students.

Residential Advisors are assigned to groups of approximately 10 students, but also share responsibilities for managing the larger Student Resident community.

NuVu Residential Advisors must be available for the full 2-week program from either July 7 to 20, or July 21 to August 3, and will need to attend a training session from July 1 to 3 in person or over Skype.

Qualifications:

NuVu Residential Advisors come from a range of backgrounds and bring a diversity of expertise. The ideal Resident Assistant is an undergraduate student who demonstrates and understanding of both the mission of NuVu and of Residential Life & Dining. Candidates will demonstrate experience in leadership, conflict resolution, teamwork and working with diverse groups of individuals. Candidates should also demonstrate competency in written and oral communication.

•Professional
•Candidates will demonstrate an understanding of both the mission of NuVu and of the Residential Program
•Candidates will demonstrate experience in leadership, conflict resolution, teamwork and working with diverse groups of individuals
•Candidates should also demonstrate competency in written and oral communication.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Past experience as a Resident Assistant or Residential Life/Housing Assistant
•Experience in counseling
•Experience in event planning and leading high school students
