Software Architect

The Company:

Nexus Events is a quickly scaling start-up building a platform that fully virtualizes what happens at an in-person professional networking event. We have a virtual tradeshow and conference product with networking, booths and talks that creates an engaging social experience for attendees and provides an opportunity for effective lead generation for businesses.

Our founder is an engineering grad from Stanford, and helped to develop over 700 companies from the pre-seed to pre-IPO stage as the founder and CEO of StartX - a startup accelerator and founder community associated with Stanford University.

As a remote company operating from 5 countries, we understand remote work and are constantly investing in our team by encouraging autonomy, clear communication, and discipline. We've recently closed our seed round and are now scaling our product and preparing to launch 50+ conferences in the next few months.

Responsibilities:

We are looking for an experienced Lead Software Developer/Architect to design and build a platform that will scale to support thousands of simultaneous users at our client’s virtual tradeshows, conferences and mixers. You will see the “big picture” and create architectural approaches for software design and implementation to guide the development team. You will have a strong technical background and excellent development skills, including DevOps. You are experienced in designing architecture and possess the ability to develop a unified vision for software characteristics and functions. The goal is to provide a framework for the development of software that will create a highly scalable platform to run simultaneous events around the world.

Specifically, you will:

• Scale our web application from MVP to thousands of simultaneous users
• Guide decisions on how to make code scalable
• Design appropriate server architecture
• Participate in standups, code reviews and retrospectives with our remote team
• Work closely with our Engineering Lead and the engineering team to make architecture and design decisions
• Help make sure everything runs smoothly & safely in production

Our tech stack (for the next 2-3 month)

• Rails 4,
• jQuery
• MySQL
• CSS

In the long term, we plan to migrate our tech stack, likely to Node.js and React.

Skills and Experience:

• Proven experience scaling web applications (preferably in Rails) from MVP to thousands of simultaneous users
• Experience with security and privacy principles
• Experience in software development and coding in various languages (esp. Rails, JavaScript, CSS, NodeJS, React, etc.)
• Excellent knowledge of software and application design and architecture
• DevOps experience
• Experience with AWS, Google Cloud or similar technologies
• Understanding of software quality assurance principles
• A technical mindset with great attention to detail
• BS or BA in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience
