Who are you?

You believe in the power of content to tell stories, engage people, and grow businesses. You can empathize with small businesses selling online and the challenges they face building their brand and getting their product to more people.

As a designer, you want ownership and the freedom to take on big, ambiguous problems that only a startup can provide. You’re comfortable collaborating closely with other designers, engineers, and marketers to take an idea from concept to production. You believe in an iterative approach to create elegant and compelling designs. Your portfolio has some premier work that solves real problems. You believe that the best product designers work end-to-end. You’re a generalist, you don’t separate UX and UI, and you don’t mind getting your hands dirty.

You’ve been through release cycles and know how to collaborate with engineers to get the right end result, and how to translate insights from user studies into meaningful actions. You have several examples of work you’ve shipped, and what you’ve learned along the way. You’re comfortable talking with users and how to create a productive feedback loop. Prototyping is an important part of your toolset.

The mission

As a Product Designer at Matcha you’ll shine a light into the future of the product, walk a mile in our customers’ shoes, and tackle tough interaction and conversion optimization challenges. At Matcha, design leads the product direction via Prove Its and supports marketing’s efforts to acquire more customers. You will wear many hats, iterate constantly, deepen your understanding of the customer’s pain, understand how content grows businesses, and get lots of opportunities to ship your work.

The role

Matcha is looking for a generalist product designer that’s eager to develop their skills in a fast-paced environment by shipping lots of work, covering lots of product surface area, and support growth marketing efforts. You’ll be responsible for identifying customer pains, designing solutions quickly, getting buy in internally, getting feedback from customers, and shepherding that work to the finish line. You’ll work closely with other designers and the engineering team to build a world class content marketing platform for small businesses. You’ll work closely with the marketing team to produce branded experiences designed to convert and educate.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Own design problems end to end, from initial concept through shipping and beyond
- Create wireframes and prototypes to solve difficult UX problems
- Obsess over the details of visual and interaction design
- Work with engineering to define requirements, not just translate them to design
- Identify future opportunities, working as a key thought partner to your counterparts in product, engineering, and marketing
- Collaborate with engineers to build your amazing designs
- Ship, measure, and improve your design based on quantitative and qualitative feedback
- Brainstorm and iterate with your colleagues to help raise the bar on the whole Matcha experience
- Justify the importance and urgency of your ideas and work against business and cross-departmental needs
- Interfacing with marketing content creators and demand gen managers to create brand relevant creative work.

What you should bring to the team:
- 3 years of professional experience in a related field
- Comfortable with ambiguity, and learning through experimentation
- Ability to solve complex design problems
- A portfolio showing your high quality, thoughtful UI and UX work
- Effective prototyping skills
- A track record of shipping great design, and an understanding of what details matter at each stage of the release cycle
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build consensus within a small organization
- Experience with user research and creating rapid feedback loops with customers
- Experience designing marketing landing pages and collateral
- A generalist mindset and a “figure it out myself” mentality when faced with ambiguity
- A hunger to ship your ideas and solve real problems

What you ideally bring to the team:
- Experience using Figma (Matcha’s design team uses Figma almost exclusively)
- Experience with D2C ecommerce and/or content marketing
- Knowledge of front-end programming languages (HTML, CSS, React, etc.)
- Experience working on SaaS products
- Experience in an Agile organization, working in cross-functional teams / pods / verticals
- Prior experience at high-growth startups
