The Role

Maps are no longer static. Our maps represent the ever-evolving world, accessing, aggregating, and adapting anonymous data from millions of sensors and phones in real-time. Mapbox has the exciting opportunity to power devices and products across the next frontier in location-based data, such as Internet of Things and AR/VR.
 
Whether you’re watching the delivery of your grocery order on Instacart, looking at a gym on ClassPass, sending snaps on Snapchat, tracking your personal best on Strava, monitoring your gas budget on Metromile, or checking today’s forecast on The Weather Channel, Mapbox is the location and maps within those apps. We’re changing how people move by mapping the world in real-time. We are the developer platform for location.

What We Do

The Map design team is a small, versatile group of software engineers, product designers, and cartographic map designers who are obsessed with finding systematic solutions to hard problems, and, in the process, inventing the future of how people interact with location.  Our work drives the maps that millions of users interact with every day in apps like Snapchat, Facebook, and Weather.com.
 
We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our team and work collaboratively with other teams in the Maps organization to solve complex problems and ensure cohesive design quality at the most detailed level. Your interaction and visual design skills will drive the experience of Mapbox Studio, our flagship application for custom map design. You’ll also bring your product-thinking skills to innovate new map design tools, leveraging new industry-leading APIs and map rendering capabilities.The product design challenges will be to balance ease-of-use for beginner users, while providing all of the advanced capabilities that our expert users rely on. 

What You’ll Do 

* Design complex workflows through iterative design process
* Navigate the technical challenges of creating a complex design tool for a wide variety of users
* Collaborate with product and engineering to define the future of the product 
* Deliver high fidelity visual design solutions
* Think through the short to long term impact of features on the overall user experience
* Work closely with user research by creating interactive prototypes, and utilizing research synthesis to shape the product
* Communicate your design rationale and advocate for design through the presentation of your work
* Inspire the entire team with new ideas

* Highly proficient with design tools (XD, Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
* Highly proficient with interactive prototyping tools (XD, Invision, etc.)
* Strong systems thinker and problem solver
* Excellence in design craft
* Comfortable working on internal and external facing features
* Bonus: experience designing maps
