Senior Software Engineer

Lou is redefining the way people learn to use software by making it possible for any company to create engaging in-app experiences without writing a single line of code. We're a small team obsessed with building software that powers great user experiences and beautiful design. Most of our team is based in Austin, TX and we're backed by the investors of Lyft, Ring, and SpaceX as well as Techstars NYC.

What we're looking for:
We're looking for a senior software engineer with the experience to help us scale from 1 million monthly active users to many billions of monthly active users. We're looking for someone with experience building web architectures that support hundreds of millions of users, collect petabytes of data, and demonstrate strong uptime and reliability.

You'll be collaborating with our core frontend engineers by leading the development of our Django Rest Framework API (Python) and ensuring that it has the necessary data structures and routes required by new features. You will be responsible for designing and optimizing a data pipeline that collects, organizes, and analyzes large amounts of real-world user interaction data on a daily basis. We need someone who can work with our existing infrastructure, optimize it for massive scale, and write elegant and maintainable Python code. In this position, you will play a vital role in helping the thousands of companies using Lou understand how to best onboard, engage, and support their users.

What You'll Work On:

• Lead the development of data structures and API routes for new features
• Build and maintain the infrastructure for a data pipeline that prioritizes performance, reliability, scalability, cost, and tooling
• Work with cross-functional teams to ensure that we're capturing all raw data points necessary to derive actionable insights
• Optimize logical processes and calculations that are core to our user analytics
• Optimize complex queries for minimum impact on database performance
• Build on top of and optimize existing web infrastructure for scale
• Participate in building and owning a culture of DevOps and Quality Assurance.
• Evaluate development decisions by considering scalability, performance, readability, release timelines, and company impact
• Assist in troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues and processes.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience building and shipping web applications at a fast-growing start-up
• 2-5 years of experience developing and delivering Amazon Web Services solutions
• Proficiency in Python, Django Rest Framework, and Postgres
• Experience in building and scaling cloud data architectures that support billions of users and petabytes of data
• Understanding of data structures and their practical real-world applications
• Proficiency with data warehouses and data lakes
• Working knowledge of operational procedures such as monitoring, logging and alerting
• Working knowledge of performance and load testing techniques
