Field Applications Engineer, Satellite Operations

LeoLabs is looking for a self-motivated, top-notch Field Applications Engineer for Satellite Operations to join our growing team. LeoLabs is a small and rapidly growing company that offers powerful tracking and navigation services to secure low Earth orbit (LEO). We want our platform to change the way people use space. The experts at LeoLabs enjoy a fun and flexible work environment and exceptional benefits while building data services for some of the newest space companies and government organizations in the world.

We deliver the world's best LEO data and services, and we want you to help us support our users! We are looking for someone with an astrodynamics and data science background who can deliver technical analyses to support sales, operations, and special projects for our satellite operator customers (in the private and public sectors). You bring an understanding of satellite operations and space situational awareness (SSA) and you will develop a deep understanding of LeoLabs’ web services. You will work with a small team that insures LeoLabs services are delivered seamlessly, provides technical support to customers, implements customer requests, and informs the development of new products and features. You will work closely with our Business Development and Engineering teams.

About you:

You have an advanced degree in astrodynamics, data science, computer science, or a related field. You have, or will rapidly develop, an understanding of enterprise software and the intricacies of working with API-based services. You might be fresh out of school or you may have professional experience in satellite operations and/or space situational awareness. You enjoy interacting with customers daily, you enjoy working alongside engineering teams, and you are familiar with the Agile software development process. You are success oriented, but not a perfectionist.

You will have:

  • PhD or MS in computer science, astrodynamics, data science, or a similar technical field
  • Experience in satellite operations and/or space situational awareness is a plus.
  • Experience performing astrodynamic and/or statistical analyses in R, Matlab, Python, or a similar package
  • Excellent time management skills and an affinity for regular planning meetings
  • An understanding of Agile software development, cloud infrastructure, and RESTful interfaces
  • The ability to thrive in the dynamic environment that comes with being part of an innovative startup in its early days. That means flexibility and willingness to jump in and do whatever it takes to be successful

Teamwork is critical as you will be working with members from other teams in the company. You will be the first Field Applications Engineer in our Menlo Park office so this is a great opportunity to make your mark in spacecraft operations and space traffic safety.

About the job:

LeoLabs is looking for a candidate for a Field Applications Engineer for Satellite Operations to prepare technical analyses for key customers. This role includes:

  • Daily interactions with satellite operations teams and other contractors
  • Using the LeoLabs platform to analyze satellite operations, simulate satellite deployments and events, and analyze events in Low Earth Orbit (LEO)
  • Implementing scripts to interact with the LeoLabs API to monitor and report on events involving customer satellites in LEO
  • Responding to customer requests for technical analyses
  • Supporting sales teams by preparing technical analyses for inclusions in proposals
  • Communicating with Engineering and Business Development to plan, execute, and report on technical analyses
  • Working alongside Product Development and Business Development to bring new features and products to clients

LeoLabs offers:

We invest in the best people and treat them right. We offer competitive salaries and great benefits (all the basics, plus vacation time and lots of snacks). Most importantly, we offer a challenge: to build data services that will change the status quo. LeoLabs is a small but growing organization focused on bringing the best LEO data services to organizations and governments around the world.
